*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

Ok I must confess

I am a TREADMILL QUITTER

I never ever seem to be able to stay committed for the full distance and/or time when I am stuck running on my treadmill...
Man are the next 3 weeks going to suck with DH away on business...

Hey everyone! I ran 5.3 miles on Saturday - got in a great pace of 9:45 m/m which is only a few seconds off from my 10K race pace. I think I might have pulled my Achilles though. I'm going to have it checked out by my PT tomorrow. I did feel a slight pinching during my run but it went away. I have a feeling it had more to do with me trodding through the mall in a pair of heels than running. I skipped my 3 miler today just to be safe but still felt a little bummed out about that. On the bright side, I got to sleep in and I think I needed the extra rest. Tomorrow, is a rest day from running but I'll be in the gym working out with my PT.

Liz - How was the trip to the pumpkin farm? Sounds like fun :)

sk8atingmom - I usually run around my neighbourhood. It was quite grey and dreary on Saturday so I didn't bother with any pictures. Part of my route takes me through one of the more well to do neighbourhoods in the city so it's always fun looking at the giant houses - now if only I could win the lottery!!

Veronica - Sorry to hear about the stonker run but yay that you got all 7 miles in despite everything and WTG on your 3 lb loss!! That's fantastic!

MapleGirl - Congrats on the 13 m/m pace!!

Joanne - Great job on the 8 miler! How do you like trail running? I live in the city so there are many authentic trails to run on. Not to worry, we'll keep you motivated on your running!!

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:

Well, DH and I went to visit the kids at their schools and so we found ourselves out of town and needing to do a 4mile run. We went to the website map my run and found a run already mapped. Saturday morning was 50 and clear. We were able to complete it in 42:30. It was a great route as it included some hills and there wasn't a lot of traffic. It feels so good to know that we are steadily increasing our time and distance. Hope everyone had a good weekend too.:goodvibes

I "wogged" 4 miles yesterday in 51:20 (3 minute run / 2 minute walk) - gosh I am slow, but I covered the distance! I need to up the pace on my walks. Pace was 12:50. First mile was 11:44

Good news was that my weight was down 3 lbs today!!:thumbsup2

YAY YOU!

sk8ingmom I live in suburban Maryland and I covet your running trail. Everytime I go to Mt. Vernon or Alexandria I look at that trail by the Potomac and think what a great place that would be to run. I'm glad you appreciate it:goodvibes My neighborhood has lots of running/biking trails that are nice to run. I have one real nice 3 mile loop that mostly is a paved trail through the woods underneath the power lines. It also includes a couple of small hills which keeps me on my toes.

I love 'our' trail! It is one of the things we look for in a house. We lived near some nice ones in Alaska and a block away from the Pinellas Trail in FL.

I hope the Achilles is a nothingburger.

I'm just a few blocks from the water, so I sometimes also run through the fancy neighborhoods dreaming of winning the lottery and moving a few blocks in to one of the "mansion houses" as DS calls them. :)

Hey Everybody! You're all doing so well. Keep up all the hard work :)

I have my 10K coming up this Sunday, so I'm trying to get a couple in this week. My goal is to finish in 45 mins. I did 6.9 yesterday in 51 mins, so I think I can do it! I'll let you all know what happens.

Hi halfers!

On January 9, the MK is supposed to open at 9:00. I know spectators are allowed into the park for the half marathon and then cleared out prior to the park opening. How do they get to the MK?

Does the resort bus service begin early enough that spectators can get to the MK? We're staying at POR and I don't want to count on DGF being able to get on the runner bus. It sounds like spectators are only permitted on a space available basis.

Thanks for any info,
Ronda

Ah, nevermind. I see MK is the EMH park that day. With an 8:00 open for resort guests she should be able to use the normal resort bus service.

Hey all! I had a busy weekend. The pumpkin farm field trip was fun. It was a great fall day for it. We ended up going back to the same farm after the boys got home from school to get our own pumpkins. Then we went to two stores for Halloween costume stuff. Saturday had errands and stuff to do. Sunday I went to a baby shower and that was fun.

My run on Saturday was not good, I wasn't into it at all. I planned to do 4-6 miles, but only ended up doing a 5K, a slooow one at that. Today I did better, a 5K in 33:45.

We decided to go ahead and do the 5K race this weekend! :) It'll be my 10 yr old sons first 5K and only my second one. I loved the one I did in May, it was so much fun, so I'm excited about this!! It's called the "Runway 5K". It takes place at the Charlotte airport, partly on the runway (so nice and flat!).

Joanne: Thanks for the speedwork info!
Way to go on the 8 miles!
Hang in there with the TM.

sk8: "Speed work might come in handy when I am attempting to sprint away from the sweepers!"
We lived in Maryland before we moved here and I know that trail you use. I always thought it was so pretty!
I run in my neighborhood...it's nothing exciting, just houses everywhere you look. There isn't anywhere nearby to run (except other boring neighborhoods!) so this is it.

Veronica: I'm sorry your Friday run didn't go well. But you are right, you did it!!
Congrats on the weight loss too.

Jenny: Way to go on the 6 miles, that was a great time!

Vicky: Way to go on your 5.3 miles!
I cringed when I read about your Achilles. I hope it is nothing for you!!! :wizard: That pinching is what I felt when I tore mine, and it went away too. It was only after we started walking around WDW that the pain came on. (We went to WDW for a week and a half the day after I tore it...But I didn't find out until we got back that that's what it was. I limped around WDW for a week.) I hope you have good news to report!

SGcruiser: Glad you had a good out of town run!

Lynn: I bet you will do GREAT for your 10K!! Hope your training runs go well this week!

Ronda: Hi!

Hi everyone! My DH and I are Doing the Donald too! We did the Princess last March, and now I really want to get the Coast to Coast in 2010. It's all about the bling! We're woggers, and we're slow compared to this crowd, so coem on anyone who wants to hang with us in the back of the pack! LOL

We mostly practice at a park near our house in Savannah called Forsyth Park. It gets old just going around and around the park, but at least knowing it's a mile around helps with keeping track of time and stuff.

I train a lot on the treadmill. My tips for staying on the blasted thing are: Ipod is a Must Have and/or I watch a fun movie like Cars or The Incredibles. I also tape a copy of the race route next to the TM and then check to see where I would be on the map and imagine that I'm running there.

I am VERY prone to injury for some reason, so I truly feel for you ladies that are hurting. My goal for this race is the same one I had for the Princess: Show up healthy and injury free, finish before being swept and still injury free. Last time I set a time goal I blew my ankle out and got benched for eight weeks, so now I don't want to jinx myself. If I'm healthy and having fun, that's good enough for me.

I'm on the waitlist for Bay Lake Tower. I would LOVE for this ressie to come through. So fingers and toes are crossed for that. I have 100 points that are going to expire, so it would be SO COOL to be able to stay there for the race.

Okay, I "think" I'm caught up now. :goodvibes I look forward to getting to know everyone.

Oh, last tip. The lady at my running store runs with a small purse-sized umbrella that opens up fast with the button. If a dog runs at her, she opens the umbrella up in their face and it freaks them out so bad they take off the other way. Hope that tip might help someone out.

PS: Hey Racey Tracy! We met at the Princess photo op/pasta dinner. Can't wait to see you again.

Hi everyone! It's good to see so many people with training reports.

I was supposed to do 10 miles on Friday, but I only finished 8. For some reason, the first time I attempt 10 miles is always terrible, but then I am fine the next week. That's why I always schedule two 10 mile runs before an event. I also did 60 minutes on the treadmill on Sunday. (I don't count distance on that thing because I am convinced that it isn't accurate.)

This week I'll be doing 5 miles on Tu/Th and 10 miles on Sa. After that I get to take it easy for my taper week. I'm really looking forward to that taper because I am feeling a little run down. I work on a college campus and there are so many germs flying around here. I've had a minor cold for weeks now!

Bonsoir l'équipe,
This is an easy week for me. I did my 8 miles in Saturday, rest day on sunday and 3 hills today.
I was wondering if anyone have used the Cliff pacing team before????

Hey there~ I remember you!. Glad to see you are going for the Donald. Yep I am going for the coast to coast again next year. I did the inaugural one. I did a 11.5 miler on Sunday and it uneventful, so in that respect all is going well!!

Helloooooo out there! No posts since Monday. We all must be busy bees this week. I know some of you are probably busy with Halloween preparations like I am. :)

I ran 4 miles this morning, 42:48. And dare I say it...I think my Achilles has made some good progress healing recently. The discomfort has been less and less. I hope it continues!

Vicky: How is your Achilles?? I hope you're ok!

Lauren: Welcome! :) That's a neat idea to have the race route near your TM...I may have to try that!
I'm sorry you tend to get injuries..I fear them now!
Good luck with the BLT waitlist!!! I hope you get to stay there! :wizard:

dislvr74: Hang in there with being sick! I hope your 10 miles goes well this Saturday!

DianeM: Good job on the 8 miles!

Keep up the great training everyone!! :yay:

Hello everyone!

Great job with your run Liz!

Things are going swimmingly with me. I have two midterms coming up :teacher: I can't wait for graduate school to be over! I feel too old to be worrying about homework and studying! ;)

I'm having fun organizing my family's trip. My folks are divorced and re-married, so having everyone come together for this Disney trip (and not kill each other) is a challenge. Everyone wants to stay at the same hotel and have dinner with DH and I every night, but they don't want to see the other party. Ummm.... OK, I love being popular and loved and all, but there's only 1 of me! :sad2: So I'm knee-deep in family arguments, ADR's, room reservations, guilt, plane tickets, and - oh yeah - work and school! Good times!:rotfl2:

On to the important stuff..... I set a new record yesterday! You may remember that I set a personal record last Friday with a 13-minute mile, well yesterday I did a 12.5-minute mile! Woo-hoo! I'm getting better!!!! Tonight is another TM night, so I'll be listening to my Disney Movie Exercise playlist. Next week I start the official training plan. I can't believe we're almost in November already!!

Have a good day everyone!

Hey everyone! Did a 3 miler this morning. I wore my new blinking light and ran on the road. There weren't too many cars but I think the ones I passed definitely saw me. I noticed they slowed down and moved over a little more than usual. Did a slightly slower pace (11 m/m) and everything seemed okay. I shower and get ready for work and as I'm walking into my building my leg starts up again ... Arrggh! Depending on how it does tonight, I might skip my run tomorrow morning. Very frustrating.

Liz - WTG on your 4 miler :) My PT said it was my soleus and he thinks it was just a tweak. Phew! Everything seemed okay after we worked out on Monday and then I ran today and it was okay until I got to work. I suspect it was the heels again - probably stretching the calves when they shouldn't be. Anyway, I have another workout with him again tomorrow so I'll have them looked at again.

Maple Girl - IL and family drama... what would we do without it :)

Diane - I signed up on their site for the race this year but never did see them in the corrals.

Have a great day everyone! :wave2:

Tuesday's training is in the books. Good, hard, lung burning run - relatively speaking : P
