*Doing the Donald in 2010* Jan. Half Marathon Support Thread!

I didn't get a chance to post on here earlier, so good evening all. :)

I did a 4 mile run/walk today in 50 minutes.. on the treadmill since it was raining out.

And now I'm going to go finish up laundry, watch The Office and hit the hay! :faint:

Great job Liz!!! We're having crappy weather here. Rain until Sunday. UGH! So I'm stuck running on the treadmill until Monday.

It is 45 and raining here in norther VA. Ick. Today is an off day, but I am already dreading 6.5 miles tomorrow in the same weather. That will be the longest I have ever gone. I'm a cold weather person, but I'm not looking forward to the wet!

Last year I brought the individual Jiff PB packs and it worked well with a bagel and did bring a banana too! LOL! Afraid I would not find one but I am sure you can get one- I was a nervous Nellie!

I have a bad four letter word for everyone- SNOW!!!!!!!!!!! It is snowing here this morning and it is not even Halloween yet- Ugh!

Will run today but not sure inside or out-probably out.

Hey this is going to work out good!

Linda

Lynn~ Stay dry!

sk8~ Good luck with the 6.5 tomorrow! Woohoo, your longest run yet!

Linda~ Snow before Halloween, so crazy! It reminds me of my years growing up in Michigan. Winter sometimes began in Oct and lasted until springtime, blech. Now I love it when we get snow, which is VERY little here in NC. lol Enjoy your snowy run!

FYI all, I changed the title of this thread. Since we've got a nice group forming I figured we needed a better title! :)

Hi Everybody,

I'm jumping into the thread. My sister and I are "Doing the Donald" (it sounds a little naughty when you say it like that! :rotfl:

This is our first time running at Disney and our first half, so I'm loving this thread for the inspiration and tips everyone has.

I'm off to run right now. It's not snowing yet, but the weatherman says it's coming soon.

Have a good training day everyone!

Jen

You know what, I was wondering if "Doing the Donald" sounded naughty...it kinda did to me but then I sometimes have my mind in the gutter, and am fine with that... lol But now another person thinks that, should I change it?!?! I don't want to offend. If anyone doesn't like the title, please tell me, post or send me a pm. Or if anyone has a title suggestion, feel free to share! :)

Anyway, hi Jen! That's neat you're racing with your sister. Another one with snow in October huh?! Have a good run!

Liz,

Don't worry about the title!!

I think it's fun. We all need a little laugh during training, right? Thanks for the welcome. It'll be great getting to know everybody.

Jen

Yes we do need to laugh, thanks. :)

You and I like it, we'll see what the rest of the group thinks!

I think the new title is great. That is what we'll all be doing on January 9 so it's perfect!

I like the new thread name :thumbsup2

Bagel with peanut butter is pretty easy without any appliances

That is true. I probably should have mentioned that I am a major pain in the rear when it comes to certain foods and bagels are one of those foods. I can't eat bagels without them being toasted. Obviously if it got down to it and I had no choice, I'd just suffer through the icky non-toasted bagel. ;)

Arelys I'm bringing peanut butter down with me... I'm going to get the Jiff travel size peanut butters... I think you get 4 in a pack. I plan on going to the food court and grabbing some bananas like the day before.

Alright, note to self: steal the peanut butter from my parents' house. :rotfl: I wish I could eat bananas (I'm allergic) they seem like an easy, quick snack.

Hi Arelys! I'm sorry you had a rough time at the half this year, you poor thing! :( I bet it will be an entirely different experience for you this time!

Thanks for the shirt info... Now I'm thinking if they run small maybe I should stick with medium. I am slim but I have a long torso and I hate it when shirts end up too short for me!

Oh and I'm glad you like that 10 week training plan. I liked it because 1) it was SIMPLE, I like simplicity and 2) it has me running no more than 4 days per week. I need those 3 rest days, though I am planning to crosstrain on some of those days using the Wii Fit soon.

I hope so! I'm much more mentally prepared this time around, not to mention physically prepared too.

I ended up getting a large because I am rather blessed in the upstairs area and I didn't even want to attempt to squish the girls into the medium I originally got. If you would like I could measure my large for you so you can see how they run. They are nice and long, which I like. I hate short shirts myself.

That's why I liked the plan too. It was very simple, straight-to-the-point. I love the wii fit! We got a few months back and it has been great.

Good question. The only things I've thought of having pre race so far is an energy bar and milk. I've read that you're supposed to drink a good amount of water a couple hours beforehand?? I'm not sure what my stomach can handle that early, I'm not a big morning eater. But I want to fuel up in the best way.

Lynn, I've seen those little Jif peanut butters, great idea to bring those! Here they are:
http://www.jif.com/products/details.asp?prodID=572

I wonder if you can fly with peanut butter?

I love breakfast food, but I'm not a big morning eater either. Right now I'm leaning towards a pb&j and lots of fruit. Seems easy and doesn't require a toaster or fridge. :thumbsup2

I would willingly trade you the heat down here in the south for some snow. It has been so ridiculously hot and humid here. Thankfully it has cooled down a lot today (it's a gorgeous 66 outside right now.) I hope it stays this way, it's much more fun running in this weather.

Hot and humid in October? Hmm the hot I like the humid not so much.

I did go to the gym today and ran on the TR. Only did 3 miles. It seems like you get a better workout on a treadmill, I was soaked and they were all looking at me like I had 2 heads- I was working hard!

2 treadmills over they wert talking about doing the Disney races I wanted to butt in but kept it to myself-HA!HA!

4:50 pm and the sun is out- nice time for that, just before dark!

I like the thread name too- we ARE doing the Donald in 12 weeks!!!!

Linda

Ok I think that's enough votes to keep the thread title. We are Doing the Donald!! :donald:

Arelys~ I am not a fan of non-toasted bagels either. They are really hard to get down when they aren't toasted, and I need a BIG drink if I have to eat them that way. And I'm not allergic to bananas but I don't like them much. And definitely not early in the morning on an empty stomach...I don't like any fruit first thing in the am. I sound extremely picky right now. lol

 You are too funny with the shirt thing.
If you feel like measuring the shirt that's be great!

Linda~ You know what I notice with the treadmill is that because I'm inside, and the temp is usually warmer in here (I don't run outside in the heat much), I end up working harder/sweating more.

That's neat about the people talking about the Disney races!

Ahhh, 12 weeks from tomorrow is race day! I think it's going to come fast you guys. 12 weeks from tonight, actually exactly 12 weeks from half an hour from now, Jenny and I will be enjoying a lovely pre race meal at the California Grill!!! Yum!

Does anyone else have dinner plans set for Friday night yet?

And a delicious meal it will definitely be. With great company too;)
Can hardly wait!:goodvibes

Some half questions...

1. Did Disney have the where-is-my-runner text thing last year? Did you/yours use it? Did it work?

2. If the half starts at 5:50 (wheelchairs, right?) and the jack rabbits go off at 6:00, when do the slow pokes cross the start? This matters because...

3. I'm slow. So slow that I think DGF can see me on Main St (mile 6ish) around 7:30, hop the monorail and see me around the Poly. Hop again and make it to the finish. If both are running, which monorail would be best? Resort or TTC?

4. For the MK, are the turnstiles open that early? Surely.

5. Same for Epcot, the park is open early enough for spectating, correct?

6. Is there a meet at POP Friday? Has the time been set?

I know it's just 12 weeks away. I want time to stand still. I also wish it could be like an exam and I could cram my training and speed things up.

Thanks for the answers,
Ronda

Good evening,
I am also registered to do the half-marathon and the 5k on Friday and it is fun to see a thread for the Donald. I will be headed to Disney by myself this time in January and this will be my first half-marathon. I just hope the weather will be cooler than last Sunday for the Race for the taste.
This morning, I did a short run and the temperature was minus 2C (about 26F). And it should be the same tomorrow morning for my 12k. I am better get used to it. I am planning to run 4 times a week: we will see how it goes.

Diane

Hi Ronda :)

My Mom used the monorail from Epcot (road the bus with me in the AM) to Polynesian. Captain Hook was open pretty early for coffee (visited that myself 1 yr) :thumbsup2 and then she couldn't get to the Magic Kingdom as they were not stopping at that platform. She hung around the Polynesian and then monorailed to MK saw me and then monorailed back to TTA and then to Epcot.

If you don't hear anything more here about the monorail and getting to the Polynesian to see you there try posting this as a separate thread as I'm sure others that might not be reading would also be interested.

1. Did Disney have the where-is-my-runner text thing last year? Did you/yours use it? Did it work? They have track you runner. one year we used it and it was on time, the next it wasn't. i've heard of families hearing updates AFTER the race was over. I was going to say BUT you can check updates online but that won't help him as he stands i the MK.

Surely.he will have to go thru security and they clear the park of spectators before they open the park.

5. Same for Epcot, the park is open early enough for spectating, correct? The Half enters Epcot over by the resort park bus stops. Both Mom and quite a few Team Mates have gone there, cheered and then walked over to the family reunion area.

6. Is there a meet at POP Friday? Has the time been set? I have not seen the concrete time but I'm penciling in Friday at 4 / 4:30 pm at POP. Last year was the 1st time I was able to pop in at the POP meet LOL so I can't remember the exact time.

******************

Another thing that works really nice is cheering at TTA and then walking to area by the Polynesian. But if it's your 1st then having them in the MK is wonderful.

liznboys - i have the 2 pocket spibelt and LOVE it. for the Princess I used the bib holders (i bought my belt at the Princess expo) and WOW! I loved it. Didn't have to mess with the pins on the shirt. YAY! lol i also have a amphipod belt (black stretch belt with the green bottles) and i really like the zipper on the spibelt for added security. i use a hand carry bottle holder that has a pocket so i can put my sport beans in there or gu. since i never use my phone during the races i put my phone in one of those snack size ziplocks so i don't worry about it.

Sandy.... it was also horribly windy Thursday here in MI up where i train. I've been doing my outside miles around a metro park lake and that wind was horrible! Stay warm! I promise myself cocoa afterwards

Linda.... YUCK on the snow! Excellent job in getting in the TM!

french lady .... 26*? YUCK! Definitely cocoa thoughts!!! Sending you warm palm tree filled thoughts :)

Liznboys? Apparently you starting this thread was very timely! :thumbsup2

Have a great weekend full of excellent training and WISHing beautiful weather for all. :)

The official WISH meet for Marathon weekend is again at the POP Century Food Court. Time: 4:30pm.

Ok all you Halfers, get going on those miles!!!

I have a half coming up the weekend of Thanksgiving, the Spacecoast Half Marathon so I am at my 10miler and things are going well so far. Should be I would think as this will be my 8th Half and then WDW will be my 9th!!:woohoo:

I'm resting up for my 10K tomorrow morning. It should be interesting since I haven't done much running in the week since I've been back. :upsidedow I read that the course isn't one for a PB so that makes me feel a little better.

Rhonda - Last year, I was in corral B and as I was crossing the start, there was an announcement that the elites had reached the 1/2 mile mark. My fiance who was in corral E said that when he heard that announcement, he hadn't even started moving yet. I'll have to ask him if he remembers how long it took him to cross the start.

Tracy - Is the WISH meet on Friday?

Diane - I didn't know that there was a two pocket Spibelt! I'll have to look into that. I have a Nathan pack but lately it's been refusing to stay put.

french_lady - Chilly weather here too! Time to get out the hats and gloves! Brrr!!

Liz - No Friday night dinner plans yet but we're doing CG after the race :)

Have a great night everyone! :wave2:
