for my own benifit. i was wondering how far married couples live from there parents?

Like I live 80 miles from my parents. and my husband parents live in Georgia.

Im just wondering to see how much times have changed, because a few years ago in my sociology class we were reading about how familys spread after marriage. and before that families would reside in the same town.

Just want to see if it is true.

My parents are dead, but when they were alive, we were separated from them by as far as a continent (us in Europe, them in Baltimore, Md) and as close as 40 miles (us in Washington, D.C., and them in Baltimore).

My inlaws have always lived in Cambridge, Ohio, which is approximately 300 miles from us.

Society has definately changed - in the old days, it was assumed that the children would take care of the parent when they became too old or sick to take care of themselves. Now with retirement communities and assisted living homes, its often that the parents move away from the children! I'm sure had my parents been living when they reached retirement age, they would have left Baltimore for a warmer climate.

Also, there is the factor that job opportunities exist all over the country, even all over the world. The days of finding a good job with good benefits and a good pension in the small town you grew up are slim. We need to be mobile in order to be successful, in most cases.

Kind of a shame, in a way.

I live next door (about 200 feet) away from my parents and the house I grew up in. I built a new home next door to them just before I got married.

Hubby's parents live about 8 miles away - 2 towns over.

My parents have been divorced since I was 19 and have each been remarried for over 25 years. My Dad and his wife live in PA; my Mom and her husband live near Orlando, FL (we live in Tampa).

My DH's parents live together (married 50+ years) in a suburb of Philadelphia.

Not by choice - we go where the military sends DH. Given the choice, I think we'd live within 6 hours from our parents.

I live about 2 hours (120 miles) from my parents. They live in Erie, PA, where I grew up and I'm in Cleveland.

We live in the same town as my parents and DH's parents. My sister also lives in the same town as us & so does DH sister & brother. My brother and DH's other sister and brother live one town over.

My mom is dead, but before she died she lived in a condo about a mile from us. My in-laws live about 10 miles away.

we live 2850 miles from dh's parents.
we live about 400 miles from my parents.

my parents live about 600 miles from my mom's parents and about 3000 miles from my dad's parents (when they were alive).

We are about 15 miles from both sets of our parents. We just recently moved closer to them.

We live about 165 miles from my folks and about 220 from DW's. Roughly a 3 hour trip to the former and 3.5 hour trip to the latter.

In contrast, my mother lives a half-a-block from her mom, her eldest sister lives with their mom, and her younger sister and only brother live in the same town too. And... Mom's younger sister has one child still at home (though out of school), one living in the house to the right of them, and the other living in the house to the left of them.

DH is in the military and we live in Europe and the family lives in NY, so if I were to guess I would say somewhere between 3,000-4,000 miles.

I live in the same town as my parents, about 10 miles away. My husband's parents live in th next town over, about 15 miles away. My husband has 2 married brothers & they all live within 18 miles of us as well.
I guess you can say we're a tight knit bunch!

My parents live in CA where I grew up. My two sisters still live with them although one is getting married in March. My brother & his wife live nearby, but he has decided to stay in the Marines for a couple more years so that might change.

My BF's mother is is SC.

We might move closer to one of them after I finish school. Ironically, I want to move closer to his mom & he's leaning towards CA. His mom is alot older than my parents (70's v. 50's) & I think she will need us more. He hates the weather down South & thinks moving his mom closer to us when the time comes won't be a problem.

We live 15 miles from my Mom and 45 miles from DH's Mom. Always lived here in this house since we got married 25 yrs ago. My parents lived a few blocks from dad's mom and about 5 miles from my mom's parents. Same with DH's parents.

We live about 1 mile from DH's parents and about 10 miles from my dad and stepmom. My sister is about 8 miles away, and sil is about 10 miles away. My 2 stepsisters both live within a couple of blocks of my dad and stepmom.

I feel very lucky that we all live so close. I couldn't imagine living halfway across the country. My dad is very ill with cancer, and having all of us nearby has been such a help.

Plus, we never have to worry about paying a babysitter and my kids get to grow up knowing their grandarents, aunts, uncles, and cousins very well. That was something I never had as a child, since all of my parents' families lived out of town.

Right now we live right next door to each other and my brother lives in my Grandparents house up the street but my DH and I will be moving to Costa Rica next year.

I live one mile from my mom, about 5 miles from my dad. One of my brothers lives 6 blocks from me, the other brother is about 4 miles away. I guess we come from the old school.

25-30 minutes from Mom and Dad, as well as in-laws. For the most part my family tries to remain close to each other. I can get to any of my siblings within 30 minutes. My sister asked us to build on some property of hers, she wanted us closer....DH didn't care for this idea. My brother lives across the street from my parents. I don't see our parents moving as they age, DH and I are planning to care for them to the best of our ability.

and 1330.0 miles (21 hrs) from my inlaws

I plan on changing that (by April 2004) so we will live
2 hrs away from my inlaws
and 21 hrs away from my parents
