The last thread like this didn't go so well...

I chose dogs, but I'm petsitting my DD21's cat and she's pretty cool too.

The one thing that I don't care for, is the fact that she's (the cat) so independent. You can only hold her for like a nano-second before she's trying to claw her way down your back to get free.

She pretty much went straight from my daughter, to me, without missing a beat. DD21 comes home and she acts like she couldn't care less.

Chloe on the other hand, is like a living body pillow. She gets up just to get some love. There are many times that I'm typing with one hand, and scratching her ears with the other. Her eyes just melt me!

I can be gone for ten minutes and Chloe will greet me at the door like she hasn't seen me in weeks! She is like the heart of my house!

I am definitely a cat person. Jen and I have 3 cats, and they couldn't possibly be more loving and affectionate. All I have to do is ask, and one of them will be on my lap purring. (of course sometimes they don't wait for an invitation, and climb up anyway. Sometimes they have to remind me that my lap is for them, not my laptop...LOL  )

Every once in a while I'll see a cute puppy on TV and think that I need one. But then I go to the house of someone with dogs and I'm reminded of why I don't want them. You see, unlike cats, dogs HAVE to go outside. And when a dog comes in from outside, he stinks. In order to keep your entire house from stinking like that dog, he must be bathed. Now I was never a big fan of bathing our dog when I was a kid. I'm thinking that I'm probably not much more of a fan of it now than I was then. So in the interest of keeping my apartment, furniture, carpet, and clothes from smelling like stinky dog, I'll do without for now.

My cats bathe themselves, and they keep their stink limited to a little corner where the litterboxes are. As long as I keep those clean, my apartment smells clean too! :thumbsup2

I always thought I was a cat person, always had 2 or 3. That was until I got my son a spoodle(cockapoo) :dog: for his birthday a year ago. Now I just adore him! I can't say I would choose all dogs over cats, but definitely my dog!

Both here. Was always raised with kitties, then moved to a rural area where everyone had a dog, and the locals joke about using cats for shootin' practice ... ugh!

So we have two yellow labs and our 15-year-old tabby Moe -- who we never let outside!!! They all greet us at the door, and I think Moe's the most vocal, probably to keep from getting stepped on by all the dog paws. Moe also won't drink water out of his own bowl set up for him next to his food. He'll only drink out of the dogs' bowl, and he'll cry and cry if it's not freshened hourly. The dogs, on the other hand, will drink water out of the pool, the toilets, lick up any liquids from the dishwasher door as I'm cleaning up.

I truly think animals all have their own personalities. I know cats get stereotyped as being aloof and dogs as needy. It seems to be the exact opposite at our house.

I love having them both, and I don't think my house will ever be complete without a dog and kitty

I love them both but haven't had a cat for a pet in a long time.

A dog is loyal, faithful, playful, friendly and obedient. A dog comes to you when you call it. A dog eats whatever food you give it. A dog sits at the door waiting for you to come home. A dog will play fetch and do tricks. A dog is man's best friend.
A cat is the opposite to all these things.
I will say I am not sure you've known many real cats... my cat eats anything other than sauerkraut, pickles and mustard. My Gwenie sits at the window waiting and then comes to the door when we enter. Cleo comes downstairs. I've had dogs who fetch worse than a cat. My Cleo has been there to lick tears away when I need her. She is my baby. Both will come just as often as my dog did when I call them.

Personally I like both. Dogs are a bit more obedient and not as independent or intelligent, IMO as a cat. There is something so sweet about having a dog sleep with their head on your foot. Cats have a bit more personality and can snuggle a bit more easily.

Both have good and bad... I love them both, but I also think they aren't quite as different as you think. Dogs rely on people more and are more like having a toddler. My cats can talk to me and are more like a 3 year old child. Both are wonderful though.

We only have cats because my DH hates dogs though.

I've lived with over 20 cats while growing up, I think I qualify as knowing what cats are like. With the exception of one great cat, Every one of them has been pretty much what I described.
I've also had a whole bunch of dogs of all breeds, shapes and sizes, and again, most of them were very friendly, loyal, playful, etc...
I am not slamming cats or those who love them. I'm simply making an observation from many years of experience.

My dogs told me to vote "dogs". They like cats though and thing that, apart from squirrels, they are the most fun thing to chase out of the yard or up a tree.

Brutus likes cats better, they taste like chicken.

OMG! He has gotten HUGE!

What a beautiful boy he is turning into! Wow! :thumbsup2

Cats because they are lower maintenence.

I voted for cats but do not have any.
I happily live in a pet-free home.
I am a total clean freak!!

I love other people's dogs, but we've found the best of both worlds: bengal cats aka "dogs in cat suits".

Incredibly sociable, greet people at the door, playful and too intelligent for their own good. We just love em to death!

I said cats I love my meowsers. They are definitely for the most part people cats and they love attention (one doesn't unless it's on his terms) and one of them fetches toys and brings them back to us but yet they are independent as well which fits our lifestyle perfectly.
