Which do you like better. I know that there are a lot of pet loves on these boards, some of you love your cats, and others love your dogs. So let's see which pet gets the most love.
Which do you like better, dogs or cats?
I vote for dogs. A dog is loyal, faithful, playful, friendly and obedient. A dog comes to you when you call it. A dog eats whatever food you give it. A dog sits at the door waiting for you to come home. A dog will play fetch and do tricks. A dog is man's best friend.
A cat is the opposite to all these things.

I like cats but I'm allergic so I only have dogs. :teeth:

How diplomatic is THAT?

Dogs are a lot more work than cats but it's well worth it to have a pet who is always happy to cuddle with you.

Not to already start a debate but are you just trying to :stir: ?

Because my cats are playful, friendly and both come when they are called. They eat any food I give it and one of them is ALWAYS waiting at the door when I come home. :confused3

CATS CATS CATS! Mine always greet me when I come home. They play fetch with us even when we're not in the mood. They drop their beanie on our laps and we throw it and they chase it, kill it and bring it back. They snuggle with us all night, they "talk" to us (they're Siamese), and are the best fur babies. They are a little picky with their food, though.

All of this and Minnie is going through Chemotherapy, too. She and her sister Wendy, are the most loving creatures.

I prefer cats simply for the fact you can leave them alone longer, like overnight, and not have to worry about them. We have a dog however because DS14 is allergic to cats and DH HATES cats. Our dog is great but overall I would prefer to have neither really--but I do like our dog.

A little bit I suppose. I figured by listing some of the things I prefer about dogs, and slamming cats, it would get people talking more, instead of just saying "Cats" or "Dogs".
I've read enough threads on these boards to know that there are a ton of cat lovers, so I thought I would give them a friendly (?) nudge to get them going.

To be honest, I did have a great cat at one time. His name was Ben. He was big, friendly, lovable, and he came when you called him. He was the best cat I ever had. Unfortunately I also had many other cats that were just the opposite of Ben. Cats that made it known that it was my privelige to serve them hand and foot, and my reward was being allowed to live in the same house as them.
Every dog I ever had was always friendly, loving, caring, etc...

And even though I love both dogs and cats It's easier to care for a cat.You don't have to get up at 3am and walk them, cats have litter pans, you don't have to get someone to come in every day when you go on vacations, cats are pretty self-sufficient for a few days, dogs bark inside and out, cats are pretty quiet most of the time, cats don't jump all over your guests when they come in the house...
Well,you get the picture.

I like them both, but I'm a little bit more of a dog person than a cat person. In general, dogs tend to be more cuddly, more playful than cats. That said, I had a wonderful cat growing up that was cuddly quite a bit of the time. She even used to come lick my face when I cried as a kid. She passed away last year. She'll probably be the last "inside" cat I ever have, since DBF and I are both very allergic. We do have two cats that were left by a family on our street who moved that we feed every night. They will wait for us at the door and rub all over our legs until we feed them. They are very sweet, but just not as loving and cuddly as Dax.

Puppy Power!

although I have a spot in my heart for 'totten (Tockwotten), the hairdressing kitty! ;)

Both for me. They are just so different from eachother.

I've always been a dog person, but since GF and I have had two cats I've become somewhat of a cat person too. (And I have to say, our cats are very much like the OP described. They never come to us when called. The kitten is playful, but the big one only plays with the kitten, never with us. The bigger one screams at us in the early hours of the morning to wake us up to feed him and he refused to eat lowfat wet food for his diet. We can't even get them to stop knocking over water glasses let alone do tricks.)

Though I have to admit, at this moment I feel like I'd rather have a goldfish. We are currently cat-sitting and dog-sitting for friends. So we've got our two cats, two more cats, and a dog all at our apartment and we're checking in on two more cats at a friend's apartment everyday. I just got up and fed the cats first thing only to be attacked by four cats tripping me and trying to get up on the counter where I was preparing their food. Then as I went to put their food bowls down (in the hallway on a rug since the dog has access to the kitchen and living room) the kitten plowed into my hand and dumped an the entire contents of one of the bowls on the floor (this is at least the 3rd time in a few days that an entire food bowl has been spilled). Then I had to chase the other two cats around and put them in a separate room with their own food since they are only allowed dry food and our cats get wet and dry mixed. And I've only been up for 15 minutes!

Both! Also, horses, fish, ferrets, rats, birds, snakes, etc.. Love them all:) I need a farm.

I prefer cats. Dogs are too high-maintenance and needy. But I find that as I'm getting older I'm starting to prefer no animals in the house at all!

I used to love dogs. But as I get older, I prefer not to be around them. HATE dog breath. Hate that they are always RIGHT THERE. I crave personal space. We have cats, and we take off on week-long trips, leaving them home alone. It is a great freedom that my siblings with dogs don't have. They have to worry about boarding them or getting someone to stay at their houses. With my cats, we get a bunch of extra litter boxes to throw in corners of the house, and have Grandma check in every couple of days. We have a self-feeder, self-waterer out, and Grandma checks those when she stops in.

I LOVE the freedom, and the affection that is not overpowering and needy.
