Anybody have dogs that eat dog poop:sad2:

It is so totally gross to me..YUCK!!!

Let me give you the background. I own 3 dogs, I also volunteer with an all breeds doggie rescue, and have one foster. Other then that, I do doggie petcare in my house, people bring their dogs to me when on vacation. So we have dogs coming and going.

Our newest foster "Tina", (shes been here 3 weeks)has been eating dog poop. :crazy2: I "try" to clean up the yard daily, but sometimes I just dont' get to it daily , expecially in the cold weather. My dogs are never out for long periods of time, usually about 5 minutes at a time. Since I am a sahm, I let them out a lot, but for shorter periods of time.

I just don't know how to get her to stop doing it???

Any suggestions?

There is a powder available from your vet that you sprinkle on their food. It supposedly makes their poop taste bad. :confused3 I used it on our puppy when she was about 3 months old, she would only do it when she pooped in the house. It didn't really help with her-she's a little wacky anyway. It may help your puppy.

Mine grew out of it, but she also stopped pooping in the house. She doesn't have much opportunity to eat it outside, but she never even tries.

The problem is she is eating all the dog poop, not just hers. Id hate to sprinkle it on every dogs food we have:confused3

Our tiny dynamo had this behavior since we brought her home 2 1/2 years ago, but appears to have stopped. I tried alot of things and it did not work. Turns out that evidently as she is getting older, the behavior stopped. :confused3 And I mean...:confused3

Yes, you would. And like I said, it had no effect our puppy. It must work on some dogs.:confused3

Stupid dogs..(mine at the top of the list!)

Some dogs like to raid the litter box, too!

our dog eats the cats' poops - we have to keep a gate on the door into that room. When he goes out in the backyard, he eats the bunny poop!!!!

luckily, we only have one dog and he won't eat his own, so we don't have to deal with that so much. Sometimes on walks we have to keep him moving, but that's it.

wish I could offer some help!

:)

Our vet told us to put pineapple in our dogs food. It makes the poop taste bad and they won't eat it. It worked for us.

My beagle eats his....only dog in the house. He would probably raid the litter boxes too if he could get to them.

We have tried everything and he still does it (6 years old now). The tablets that you can buy at the petstore seem to help a little but he still does it. We have tried just about everything and nothing seems to work. It is NASTY!

My dog likes to bring in frozen poopcicles and let them thaw in the house. It's not too bad if I find them right away...but if they thaw all night...and I'm walking into the laundry room without turning on the lights...well, lets just say it's not a pleasant surprise.

Gross, but yeah. Mine even stuck his head in the cat litter box for variety. He did outgrow it, thank God! gag

I wish I could help, but I have the same problem.

My 1 year old dog will eat part of her poo if she has an accident in the house.I guess she's trying to hide the evidence.:crazy2:

She also gets onto the litter box. Drives me crazy. I changed the cats food hoping she wouldn't like it as much. No help.
It's so gross, she gets it out all covered in litter. My husband calls them K-9 crunchys.:rotfl: Nothing worse than a cute puppy jumping up on your lap with bits of cat litter on her nose!:scared:

I don't think the pineapple would work for her because she LOVES it!

Ok, good to know my dog isn't a freak!

He doesn't eat his own poop, or other dog poop, only frozen cat poop when we're walking outside. It makes me want to vomit. I yell a loud NO, but I don't know if it'll help in the long run. He's only 5 months old, so I hope he outgrows it. I wonder what's in cat poop that tastes so good to him? Going off to vomit now.

My dog loves to roll in cow poop.
:sad2:
He's been better about it lately - and hasn't been around many cow patties.
He hasn't figured out about goat poop yet, thank goodness.
I'm sure he'd think it was yummy jelly beans.
:rotfl2:

You could try giving your dog(s) Fig Newtons. Apparently, there is something in the Fig Newtons that make the poop taste bad (as if it doesn't already???). This won't help if they are eating cat poo though ... not sure if cats will eat Fig Newtons or not?
Anyway, I have heard several people on a listserv I belong to that have had success with this. Good luck!

I don't even have a dog but this thead has me literally crying with laughter. DS says that these dogs are craptastic!
