My daughter is now living in San Diego, and we are planning a trip to see her and go to Disneyland. She has a little doggy that will be with us. I don't think the Disney on property hotels allow dogs, but I know there is a kennel for day use. Can anyone suggest a dog friendly hotel near disneyland; moderately priced?

The Anaheim Red Lion allows dogs, i'm sure there are other hotels, but this is the only one i know of.

from the Anaheim Red Lion website
Pet-Friendly Anaheim Hotel.
We welcome your four-legged family members with open arms in pet-friendly rooms that give you and your pooch the floor space and privacy you crave.

Our Anaheim hotel offers comfortable pet-friendly accommodations and beautiful surrounds for walks and fresh air. A nominal $20 fee per stay is required

Red Lion, Motel 6, Residence Inn Maingate, the Anaheim Hilton, ANaheim Plaza, and the Anaheim Sheraton are all pet friendly. Plaza is probably the closest and cheapest ($10 fee). Note though, all places, the dog does have to be kept crated in the room when you are not there. It's for the dog's safety.

Motel 6 on Disney Way is probably the least expensive as they do not charge a pet fee. Hilton and Red Lion allow pets but have a fee. ART nor Toy Story buses allow pets unless they are very small in a carrier. Mickey & Friends trams allow pets on leashes.

I read a review reply by Red Lion mgmt. the other day that said housekeeping can't enter the room with uncrated animals, which would imply that they're allowed to be uncrated while in the room alone. I don't know, though. The paragraph about pets on the web site doesn't mention crating.

Most require it, for the simple reason if staff needs to go in (emergencies happen) they don't want to be bitten, nor do they want the dog to escape the room. Imagine coming back to find your room flooded by the room above AND your dog gone. (It has happened.)

Most hotels (Sheraton, Hilton, Marriott, Westin) actually states animals may not be left in the room unattended. An example is Sheraton's "Pet Policy

Dogs less than 80 pounds are allowed. Dogs can not be left alone in the guest room. Cats are not allowed. Guest must sign a waiver at check-in before dog is allowed in any guest room or public area. Dogs are not allowed in any food and beverage or pool area. A pet cleaning fee of $40 per stay will be charged to your room." Red Lion doesn't specifically say crated or unattended. Neither does Plaza. Hilton, Sheraton, Westin, Marriott do.

We travel with dogs. For the last 8 years, we have traveled with 1-3 dogs on all trips. (Service dog/Service Dogs in training) I would never consider leaving one of them uncrated in a room. And our pups love their crates. It gives them security, and gives us security nothing is happening to them. Dogs are like toddlers. (We joke taking our pups to Disneyland is like having a 3yo with us all the time.) They may be very well behaved, but all it takes is one blind eye to have problems. I am not talking just about causing some destruction, that is just going to cost you money. But talking about chewing something and choking, finding a plastic bag with remaining cookie crumbs and swallowing causing a blockage, doing something dumb like getting on a bed and jumping off and landing wrong tearing a knee, etc... Cash to pay for a torn up duvet is of little concern to me, but finding my pup injured or gone is too much risk.

I an on 100% agreement with Malcolm. Using a crate is safe all around in these situations. Our dogs prefer then a well.

We brought our then 10 year old Sheltie to the Sheraton Hotel.
She weighed 55lbs, we kept her crated, she LOVED her crate as well. It provided her a safe place, and she always retreated to it at home, when upset or nervouse...
The Sheraton has a lovely area for your pups to go potty... I could ask Kylie if she wanted to go to the "Rose Garden"... and she would grab her leash!
We also boarded her in the daytime at the DLR kennel, and they we're wonderful... went back every 3 hours to take her out to the potty area...

I would not hesitate to bring one of my dogs back on a trip...

RIP, Beautiful Kylie!
