I have a year old female (spayed) Jack russel. She is a great dog. Very high energy.
On the way home from the airport yesterday, we came across a young dog running down the middle of the highway. Cars flying by and almost hitting the poor thing. OF course we stopped and called puppy and here it came right to the car. Very dirty and wet and scared to death. Tried to find owner along that area without luck. So we brought it home. The Jack just about tore her apart. We were going to keep her here, run an ad in the papers and contact the local vets offices. Well, no way would the queen of the house allow that. So a friend agreed to help and keep her while we look for the real owners. Sweet little pup that I would have kept in a heartbeat if Dot would have allowed it.
Anyone know of any way to get my Jack to relax? She was so agressive it was terrible. I was afraid of her.
Thanks for any hints.

Is Dot this way around all dogs?

Jack Russels are notorious for being high strung and nervous. Unfortunately, because they are featured on TV commercials and shows(Frasier) folks think they make good pets.Don't have a cure for you.

My mutt LOVES other dogs, he's always going to "kiss" Katie the Sheltie down the street when we walk, and "check out" any other dogs that are being walked.

I don't think it is because she is a Jack. I think she is the "alpha" and didn't want any other dog around. She is ok with the Lab that we have. He is old and doesn't like her much, but just gets up and walks away when she bugs him. She doesn't try and bite him or anything. I really haven't had her around other dogs. She loves the cat, but tries to bite her too if the cat runs....

It's important to socialize them with other dogs from a very early age. My dog doesn't LOVE other dogs (really has little interest in them) but isn't aggressive....EXCEPT with the cocker spaniel we adopted from my MIL when she had to move. When it came to another dog LIVING in HER house she became Ms. Alpha. We had to hire a professional trainer for help.

Just a thought -- try introducing your dog to the foundling AWAY from your car or home -- any place the JRT considers to be 'her' property. That may help.

Aggression is always tricky, whether it's directed toward people or toward other dogs. Maybe your girl doesn't want another female in the house, but I'd try intros at your friend's home or a park -- any place that's neutral territory -- and see how it goes.

Good luck!

We found the puppy's owner!!!! they live 5 MILES from where we found the pup. I am so happy for all of them.

Thanks for the hints.
