Does your teen boy carry a wallet?

My DS is 15 and he has a brown leather very simple bifold from American Eagle. I believe it was around $16. His friend, who just turned 16, carries a Disney Monster's Velcro wallet. My DS, who is almost 22, carries a homemade duct tape wallet that is similar in design to the one from AE.

Here are a few from AE online. They are even on sale.

I guess you should let him decide since he is the one carrying it. It really seems like it's a personal preference.

My son had a fabic wallet (bears logo) then just recently switched to a leather wallet. He is 18

DS used to carry a leather wallet, like his dad.

Since we went to Europe this summer, he has been using this:

He puts the wallet in his cargo pocket, and attaches the chain to his belt.

Not a teen boy anymore, but when I was I carried a money clip with a card holder as the back of it. It fit in my front pocket and was more comfortable sitting in class with a wallet in the back poket and was harder to loose.

I still carry the same kind today many years later.

WOW, so I guess my 50 yo husband is in the wrong for using a Velcro Real Tree wallet that his mother purchased for him for Christmas two years ago.

UGH, let the boy decide on his own what type of wallet to use, there are bigger battles your husband could be facing.

I bought my dh, ds19, ds16, ds14 all leather wallets last Christmas.

Before that dss had velcro, fabric and a duct tape wallet. Bought the leather ones at Wilson leather outlet for less than $15 each.

I decided that they needed something decent since dhs was old, oldest son was in college and next two were in highschool.

My 18 year old son uses a leather wallet- and has since he was about 16.

Velcro wallets are for kids- can you imagine going on a date and the RRRIIPPP-- of the Velcro wallet?

Let him get what he wants. It's his money and ID not yours.

My 16yo used to carry his great-grandfathers leather wallet.

He has recently switched to another faux leather wallet made by some company he likes- Foxx, DC, or something like that (really can't remember). His Papa's wallet is safely tucked away in a drawer though.

ds's 15 and 17 - both have Velcro wallets from Hot Topic I think. Their wallet, their choice...

I had a devil of a time convincing my son to carry any wallet at all. After he turned 21, and he couldn't get a beer a few of times, he finally started remembering to take it with him.

What kind does he have? DS just got his license and DH insists that he carry a wallet now. DS has one from when he was younger. It's made by Quiksilver and has velcro. DH says only little kid wallets have velcro and he needs a leather one. I said leather wallets are for old men. LOL What do you think?

I say let your DS choose. Mine moved up from velcro to leather at age 12.

He doesn't really carry it much. He's more lilkely to take money out of it at home and just put in his pocket. But he definitely thought the other one was too juvenile.

To each their own.

My son uses a hemp wallet. He's used a wallet for several years. He's 18.

DS 18 carried a Velcro wallet until last year. He didn't get his license until he was 18- so I don't even think he carried the wallet every day. This past summer, he bought himself a brown leather bifold wallet at Kohls.

DS14 has a black faux leather wallet that had a Phillies logo on it which he ripped off. It was a gift from my SIL. He hasn't asked for a new wallet, but he also doesn't carry it every day. He never has money, isn't old enough for a license or permit, and has to wear his school ID on a lanyard.

DS says he doesn't want to carry a wallet because it's too big. I'm going to tell him about the money clip with the card holder. I think he'll like that idea.

I agree with the person who said velcro wallets are loud. DS may want to switch for that reason alone.

We got both of our boys, ages 18 and 15, wallets earlier this year. The older guy doesn't drive but does have a state ID card. I think at that age he should have picture ID on him all the time. He also carries a few dollars to buy snacks at school. DS15 carries his student ID card and a few dollars. Both boys carry their wallets in their school backpacks. They each have a designated pocket where they only keep their house keys and wallets. If they go out anywhere with friends, they will put their wallets in their pockets. Neither has complained about carrying them.

I'd agree with everyone about letting him decide. Can you imagine telling your 16 year old daughter which handbag she had to use? I can see ruling something out if you deemed it inappropriate, but otherwise no. :) He's bound to use it more if he likes it anyway.
