I know many states have sales tax instead of states tax however ...
In Oregon we sometimes get an additional kicker tax refund if more taxes were paid in by the taxpayers then what was due. The average kicker refund is $600 dollars this year, ours being $608! The kicker check are scheduled to be mailed out in December! I'm thinking that's a great chunk of change to put down on my next Disney Vacation!! :cool1:

No & we have sales tax & state tax. We never get a refund.

Same here in Pennsylvania. What makes it worse is that 2 counties in PA have a 1% higher sales tax than the rest of the state. Of course I live in one of those 2 counties.

No kicker tax here -- although I live in Michigan and after last week I feel like I have been kicked by taxes! (our state income tax rate went up and we are now being taxed on a variety of services that were previously untaxed -- our whole state government almost closed)

I think OR is very unique in not having sales or state tax. :) Consider yourself very very lucky! Makes up for not being allowed to pump your own gas. ;)

(I'm in WA...one of the no state tax but yes to sales tax (on certain items))

We pay sales and state income tax. The state does give a property tax rebate to help offset the costs of all the taxes but there is an income cut off. Basically the more you pay into the system the less you get back. My grandfather who rented an apartment received an $800 check (more than one month's rent) and we received nothing. It makes no sense.:confused3

I wish we had that!!! our sales tax is 8.25%! I think that is pretty high...Who has a higher sales tax? And we have to pump our own gas...and our traffic is horrendous, and our schools are pitiful...and now we have no water...why am I still here??????:sad2:

No extra refunds here in VA. A year or two ago, the state (Commonweatlh) had a nice surplus and some were suggesting that it be returned to the taxpayers. Didn't happen. They did lower the sales tax for food, though.
That's great for the OP. Nice timing, too. :thumbsup2

I live in Wisconsin-tax hell. We have a State income tax, sales tax for state and our county. I don't know why anyone lives in Wisconsin.

No kicker's in PA, except a kick at the taxpayer's wallet from the government. We pay sales tax, state tax, and local taxes to the municipality (about 1-1.5% of your gross income). The good part no tax on clothes

When I lived in NY, I never got a kicker either. There were no local taxes, however at 8.25% for sales tax it probably more than makes up for it. Everything is taxed, including clothes.

DH never got a kicker refund when he lived in Ohio.

I've lived in Wisconsin for 4 years - moved here for my husband's job. I can't believe how expensive it is to live here!! Send some of those kicker checks this way!!

LOL! When I read the title to your thread I was thinking - WOW - another state with a kicker!! Another Oregonian here - who loves the kicker, but sure would like to see a nice rainy day fund too. :goodvibes Not sure what I'm going to do with it yet - have to wait and see.

Since NJ has high property taxes, we are lucky enough to get something back. In past years, homeowners received about $300.00 back. This year has changed a bit. Depending on your annual income, you can get back
0-20% of what you paid in property taxes for the year. And like I said, since we have some high property taxes, we got back a pretty good refund....It was about $800.00 :cool1:

Dont know if that will happen every year, but I am happy that I got for some extra Disney spending money for February!!!

Quick!!! someone call the state of Va and let them know about the kicker!!
va is actually a commonwealth... so that means extra taxes...
there are a few others as well I wanna say pa and mass too

Correct on no sales tax...but there is most definitely state tax in Oregon. The kicker check is from *excess* state tax that has been collected. We actually have to file as non-residents but are fortunate enough to also receive the kicker. :thumbsup2

As one of the previous posters stated, here in NJ, home of the highest taxes and automobile insurance in the land, we were given some tax relief by our billionaire governor, and the merry band of thieves known as the NJ State Senate and Assembly. Your "tax relief" ranged from 0-20% of your property taxes paid for last year. While I was happy to receive my $1007 check from the state, I wonder how the government will make up for this. Now here comes the kicker part. Those who itemize their deductions on their federal tax returns will have to claim the refund as INCOME! So we taxpayers unknowingly robbed Peter(NJ) to pay Paul (US).

How's that for a KICKER???

Actually your range should say 0%-20%. The rebate was phased out by income. I know many people who received nothing, most of course paying the highest taxes.

You asked... I am ashamed to admit we currently have 9% sales tax and there is talk of raising that to 11% in the very near future!:scared1: In addition I believe we are also the most expensive place to buy gas in the US and I just heard this morning that is being considered for a tax raise too!:sad2: Life in good old Chicago is getting VERY expensive!

I truly wish that TN had this so called "kicker" tax. We don't pay a state tax, but they tax EVERYTHING you buy here, and our sales tax rate is 8.25%. I came from Indiana, where we paid state, local and sales tax, but groceries were not taxed and the sales tax was pretty low.

I might move to one of these no sales tax states :rolleyes1
