Does your polling place usually have long lines?

I see that this is a problem for many on election night. What are the polls usually like where you are (and where are you BTW?)? Back when I lived on Long Island, NY I could expect a wait of about 15 minutes or so...longer if I went after work. But certainly nothing unmanageable. Now that I live in Smallville, NC (hehehe) there is RARELY anyone in our teeny tine, used to be a one room schoolhouse voting place. The poll workers know me (they're my neighbors) and hilariously enough, our voting machines are usper duper hi-tech touch screen models. Back on Long Island, we had the pull lever, push button ones!

Anyhoo...so are you anticipating a long wait, and by how much?

We have one voting machine here for about every 100 adults. Since they don't all vote, there is never a wait more than a couple minutes.

The line at my polling place for the IL primary wasn't long exactly, but it did move very slowly. They only had three machines for my district, and with electronic voting, most of the seniors in line needed a poll worker to help them which slowed things down even more (not that i begrudge them the help, I'm just saying it slows things down). I think it took me about 45 minutes of waiting for the primary, but I went in the middle of the day (I was off that week). This time I'm going after work, but I'll still be there before 5 so I'm hoping to beat the rush. I'm also hoping they will add machines. I'm in Kane County IL.

My zip code probably has less than 400 people. And some of those are vacation/weekend homes, so they don't even really count.

I never have to wait more than a couple of minutes. I'm in a rural part of MD.

Little Rock, AR - I voted today. We have early voting here. It took 2.5 hours to vote. This is around the average wait time for EARLY voting here. We have the touch screen electronic machines. There were only 5 at my polling place.

We moved here a little over 8 years ago. I voted in the 2000 Presidential election on Election Day that year. It took over 5 hours to vote.

That is why I GLADLY voted early today.

For smaller elections/millages, etc, the lines are pretty short. For presidential elections, the lines usually take 30-45 minutes. I'll let you know next week what they're like this year. ;)

In my old precinct, the wait was usually around 15-20 minutes. At the primaries however, the wait was almost 45 minutes.

I'm not sure about my current precinct because I haven't voted there yet. But I do anticipate more participation (not only because of this election, but because the area just seems more politically "involved" than the neighborhood I lived in before).

The early voting lines have been so long I was starting to panic. I tried THREE times to go vote today and the parking lot was completely full. The line would have easily been over an hour, but it didn't matter because there weren't any parking spots! :scared: It has been like that ever since early voting opened last week.

I finally had a revelation. I looked online and discovered I can vote at ANY location during early voting! So I gave up on my usual polling place and went to another one. I was in and out in about 20 minutes. (That includes picking up some election materials for DS's notebook for his history class.)
