My DH needs knee surgery soon, but his employer doesn't provide any type of disability. So he will be off work for at least 2 months and no pay or insurance. What do people do??? I don't make enough to pay our bills and my employer doesn't provide insurance for us.

Just wondering if this is a common thing and has anyone else been in this situation?? What did you do???

I have short-term disability, but my husband doesn't and he's the one out of work for the next 6 months. I can honestly say that I know EXACTLY what you're going through now.:(

We get 39 wks of full sick pay. If you are off longer than that then we go on short term disability which is 50% of your base pay with a cap of $3000.00 per month.

If your employer doesn't offer short-term disability, you might want to think about contacting AFLAC - yes, the duck people. If at least 3 people from your company want to purchase their own (& it's reasonable) they'll set it up for you. I think it can be pre-tax, which means the employer actually saves $$ w/o spending any.

No, I don't sell AFLAC - but it was offered to me at the place I used to work.
