Does your dog sleep all day?

My dogs, especially my 9 yr old Boxer, sleep a whole lot. They usually are woken up around 7ish when my son gets up. They lay around or play until it's time to take DS to school. They are crated when no one is home. Once I get home the basically chill out and nap until DS comes home. They are a little more active when DS is home but they still manage to catch a nap. My boxer usually puts herself to bed around 7. Sometimes the mutt will put herself to bed also. If they are in bed when we get ready to go to bed they won't even bother to get out of the crate to go outside.

Dogs appear to be sleeping during the day but they are actually "on alert" more than at night. If its cold, rainy or snowing, Jude doesn't get up until late morning. I have to get him up to make my bed.;) He sleeps at the bottom of it on a throw, so I just straighten the bed around him. He is that lazy.
My poodle is 12 and she sleeps most of the time. LOL she doesn't get up until 10 am. I drive a school bus and she is still in my bed when I get home after doing the morning run. I am out in all kinds of weather, not her.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

sounds like ours - he sleeps all day (after going out for a walk around 6 am) if it is just him and me. He will start to be up and around at 3 or so. He is then ready for bed again around 9 or 10.

If DH is home, he will force himself to be awake and "attached to DH's hip", but then he will be exhausted and need to sleep more to make up for it!:)

My 3 1/2 year old chihuahua sleeps all day, or at least just rests. It stinks when you're the only one home because she requires a lap to sleep in. You can never get anything done when you're the only lap in the house.

Can someone explain this to my 2 year old Golden Retiever.....

My dog sleeps a lot. Sometimes I'm really jealous of that dog.

I wish! My husband and I both work nights so it would be a blessing if the dogs would sleep all day! I am used to it though, our collie never let me sleep the whole day in all of his 11 years of life. We have 2 puppies now and they always wake me up between 2-3pm and I let them out for awhile, usually while dozing on the couch :goodvibes Then around 6pm they are ready for me to get up even though I try to sleep until 7:30pm. They are usually into stuff between 3pm and 6pm as well.

My dog sleeps at least 21 hrs of the day. I've never seen her on "high alert". I hear the mailman before she does. I hear people knock and let them in before she even moves.. she's about 10 ft from the door in her doggy bed. The only other place you can find her is by the heater. I sat next to her today and holy crap I don't know how she was lying there it felt like she was on fire... she seemed to be happy and enjoying it until I interrupted her midday nap... I just cut her nails she was awake for that.. she's very unhappy now too.. I'm sure she'll just go sleep it off.

My dog sleeps more when DH is not home. He doesn't need to go out in the morning until whenever I get around to putting him out. Sometimes he doesn't even want to get up then. After that, he pretty much sleeps all day. When DH is home, he is up at 6AM whining to go out and about every hour for the remainder of the day.

Guess who has who trained in our house?

Our pups (ok...11 yr old and 8 yr old:rotfl: ) sleep most of the day away~if one of us comes home early from work...they come stretching out of the bedroom with the "what are YOU doing home this early" look on their faces:lmao:

They do the 7pm "run through the house" and they are back to sleeping :confused3

The terrier mix does wake up daily by 6am (one of us usually out the door to work by then) wanting out...but the boxer/lab will sleep until noon!;) She is '"my" dog:rotfl2:

Glad to hear my dog's just like everyone else's. This is his first Christmas with us so I'm sure he'll be wondering what the heck is going on. He'll be glad to see us leave to go to my mom's for dinner.

Oh, I guess I should lay his Santa gifts out as well.

Merry Christmas everyone!

I have a 9 yo boxer and a 4 yo lab something mutt. These two dogs are lazier than any dogs I have ever seen. If its raining outside in the mornings they will hold it until it stops raining. My boxer has a bladder I could only wish for.

I came home last week, brought in some groceries and the whole time my boxer was sleeping on the couch. She didn't even raise her head to see who came through the front door. I realized that she wasn't even saying hello so I walked over to her and yelled her name, no response, so I start to think crap, so I start to shake her. At this point, she opens one eye and looked at me like "what, can you not see I am sleeping here". For five seconds there I thought she had passed away. My heart took two hours to stop racing. Five minutes later she got off the couch, stretched, yawned and walked upstairs. I go up the steps and find her stretched out on ds's bed sound asleep again. The whole time this is going on the mutt is on dd's bed sound asleep.

Yeah...definitely would like to come back as loved dog in a warm house if there is such a thing as reincarnation.

My dogs were up on Christmas day around 8ish to get their Santa gifts. Then laid in front of the fire place while I cleaned the house. Around 10:30 I went to lay down and rest before my house got filled up with family, and my dogs were right there with me napping.

Yes, my dog likes to sleep all day. One of the reasons I chose her from Petfinder (besides her beautiful pitbull eyes  ) is her blurb said she would be fine without a fenced yard. I guess that was a tactful way of saying "She's a lazy, lazy girl.":rotfl:

My doxie sleeps or rests all day LOL. Sometimes she just chills out w/her eyes open too. She's about 10?

I have a lab and basset hound and they both sleep A LOT! The basset hound has only been like this more recently as he's grown out of puppyhood. Naptime is a big deal in our house - you end up with a bed full of animals to sleep with you :)
My cats today though have been the epitomy of laziness today in fact my husband and I were just saying that tonight should be interesting considering they slept ALL day long, in fact they just got up for what seems like the first time all day.

We have an estimated 6 yr old Brittany so can be a little bit more active for that age then some breeds. He has his set nap time maybe from 1-4 if I am home. He might lay on his bed and watch us. But if we are playing or we offer to play with him and his toys he is always ready. We don't say the full word "walk" unless it is right at that moment. I have to say to my DH "Are you taking Daniel for a W?"

Our pup is one year old on Tuesday. He is a lab/retriver and belongs to the Guide Dogs for the Blind. He will be going back to them on 5th January and will have to start working (training) for a living. He has enjoyed the good life with us and does sleep a fair bit. He was mad when he was younger but has really settled down. He LOVES going for walks and being out and about in the shops and cafes etc. We will miss him sooo much. :sad1:
