does your crock pot meal ever come out on the dry side?

I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Ever since I got my new crockpot, my meals having been a bit dry.
The food is completely covered in liquid and I've had to decrease the cooking time.
For example if something is supposed to be on high for 6 hrs, I end up cooking on low for 3 hrs.... and still dry.

Any advice?

You didn't mention what you were cooking in your crock pot so I'm not sure what to suggest. Sounds like you're doing everything correct. The only thing I fix in my crock pot is pot roast or white or pinto beans. I've made my pot roast several ways. Once I used a can of Coke in addition to a large glass of water, slow cook all day on low. It was ok. I've also used a can of Golden Mushroom soup w/a can of water. On another occasion I've used 2 pkgs of Lipton Onion soup mix and water. Hang in there and keep working w/it. I'm sure you'll get the right combination!
Good Luck!

When you say the food is covered with liquid I presume that is before you start cooking. Is it still pretty full of liquid when the food is done or has most of it evaporated?

I'm guessing the latter is what is happening, in which case my guess would be that the lid isn't fitting properly. The whole point in a crock pot is that the lid keeps the "steam" in and that helps keeps things cooking and from drying out.

You said since you got your new crockpot. That made a light go on in my head. I find my newer crockpot runs hotter than my old one did. I usually just adjust the recipe a bit by adding more liquid or cook it for a shorter length of time. Make sense?

It's usually a roast that I'm cooking.

I think perhaps that the new crock pot does run hotter. The lid fits nicely, unlike my old one .

Although the new lid fits, it ends up jumping around a bit when it gets steaming and lets water spill out of it. The meal is still fuller covered in liquid though.
Is it normal for the lid to jump around a little? My old crockpot lid was too small so there was always a small opening somewhere (probably why it was on sale) and never jumped around or rattled.

If it has a high and low setting, try using just the low setting to help balance the heat/liquid loss.
