a family reading night?:) My kids' school does and my kids have so much fun! They need to make the chairs bigger though.

No, do you go to the school and read to the kids?

That sounds cute!

No. :( That is a great idea though, it would be wonderful if the school could start such a program!

:bounce::wave::bounce:

Ok, Browneyes, you're supposed to give more details, now! ;)

I've never heard of this. Do you go to the school library, the classroom, what?

Or do you go to the town library?

Are the teachers around? Is there something to track progress?

Incentives?

Sorry, this sounds interesting.

No, but we do it all the time.

My kids' school has an accelerated reader program where they accumulate points. On family reading night, they get double the points.:)

Yes, I read to them, they read to me or they just read to themselves.:) Then we take a test on the book.:) Plus they give away door prizes. My son won a book and an audio cassette last night.:)

We go into the classroom to read.:) Yes, the teachers are there. We have a PTO meeting before they dismiss us to the class rooms. The incentives are the extra AR points, and seeing mommy sit in one of those tiny chairs.;) They love showing me things in their classroom. And they really love showing me they can use the computers in their classroom.:)

LOL! There's so many good stories here, we could all get together to write a good book.:p

I think Cows can't fly was my son's favorite book last night.:) The little boy in the story was a lot like he is.:)

Our parent involvement committee is looking at satarting this. We were going to do k-3 one night and 4-6 another and have it in our media center so they can use the computers too. I like the sound of how yours is done, browneyes!!

Each classroom has 2-4 computers they can use to take the AR tests. The students can also use the computers in the library and the computer lab if they need to. Grades K-5 all can come.:) It's a lot of fun, and usually my kids and I are the last of the parent/children group to leave the building.:o We don't wanna leave.:)

As parents, we can be "guest readers" anytime
we want but there's no set date for it. We have
Book Club too. Once a month, parent has lunch
with their child and the book read is discussed.
The kids have 3 books to choose from each month.
Usually one is for the younger ones and allows
them to do some of the reading. The discussions
are lead by a group of questions by the literacy
teacher. Dh always goes to this as I volunteer in
the school almost every day.
Parent Reading Night sounds fun!

We usually have a "Goodnight" reading event once or twice a year. The gym is decorated with stars etc...and divided into reading corners with pillows and blankets on the ground and one rocking chair.Everyone is supposed to come in their jammies(G-rated of course)and an adult volunteer reads books from the chair to kids/adults on the pillows and afterward everyone has milk or cocoa with cookies.

No points or anything are given,it's just a fun night.
