Does your child have a Video Now?

Binny posting the Walmart Black Friday deals got me to wondering what a Video Now is? Do your kids have one? Do they like it and was it worth the money?

I was wondering about this and why anyone would choose to buy this rather than just buying a portable DVD player for the kid??

My thoughts exactly. I know that if I gave that to my kids, they'd look at it, play with it for exactly 2 minutes, then not even look at it again for the rest of their lives. And why should they when they know how to turn on the DVD player, they have their video games and computers.

That is exactly why last Christmas DD received a portable DVD player instead of "Video Now'. Unless I'm missing something with VN, I thought it was a waste of $.

I bought the video now black and white version last year, my DD (10) watched the movies I bought to go with it and maybe touched it once more after that !! That's it !

I bought the black and white one last year, and my son really liked it. He used it quite a bit, mostly on car rides.

He doesn't really use it now, though. But, when the color one came out, i thought of purchasing it, too. I then noticed, as I mentioned on another thread today, that Gameboy came out with video cartridges recently. Since he has a gameboy, I bought him several cartridges when they were on sale at toysrus.

BTW, he's 8, and he's much more into different things (including games) now. . .so, he hasn't really watched the videos as much. I guess now I'm thinking that maybe the video cartridges weren't even such a good idea. I think the idea is cool, but now that you mention it, it makes a lot more sense to buy a cheap dvd portable. . .although more expensive initially than the video now, really isn't more expensive once you take into account the cost of discs and that the video now disks can only be played on that player.

I was also thinking the same thing. VN seems like such a waste of money. In their flyer Toysrus had a small teen dvd player on the same page as the VN. I think it cost $113. It made more sense to buy that instead of the VN.
Plus dd already has a Gameboy and I recently found out that they have the little videos for that. DD really wants a VN but I think maybe a GB video would make her just as happy. Or get the cheap dvd player.

I'm with legs. I also have a coupon for TRU for $15 off a $150 purchase. I figure I can find enough else to use the coupon! My dd really wants the VN, I'm thinking the personal DVD for car rides.

How much do those VN movies cost, anyway?

Thanks for all the responses...My kids both have a Gameboy SP, so I might just buy a couple of the video cartridges that they have out now instead! :)

Thanks again! :)

Yup, waste of money. My DD has one, maybe used it twice. She got her grandpa to buy it for her;)

I got the black & white version last X-mas for my dd. She used it in the beginning. I got her all the little cd's that were out and after she watched them all, that was the end of it. This year we're getting her a portable dvd player. I'm looking to get her one with a 7" screen.
