Does your campus charge for parking?

Wow I never even thought about parking fees until I read this and now I feel grateful that my university doesn't charge for parking! I go to a state school in a fairly large city in CT and they still don't charge us for a pass. I am a commuter and there is a parkng garage that is there just for us to use, granted in the middle of the day it's hard to find a spot, but after driving around for a little bit eventually someone will leave. I'll take that over paying! We are however charged for the buses that run between our split campus (which I never use), so that part does stink.

I know my university had them way back when (I graduated almost 15 years ago). I never bought one so I am not sure I remember the cost but I want to say it was about $150 per semester. It wasn't cheap. Some of that did go to maintaining the lots, snow removal, etc. Mostly it was a way to discourage driving to campus. I also do not think cost of maintaining parking lots should be included in general tuition. Many people live on campus or close enough to walk or take public transport. The lots are not a part of getting an education (I think staff lots should be greatly reduced or free) so why should that cost be passed on to all?

I am a staff member at a University. I pay about $460 a year for my parking. UGH.
