Does your 5th grader date?

I have to admit, I'm kind of surprised at all the responses of "my dd/ds isn't even interested in boys/girls yet." That isn't what I see in my neck of the woods at all, or what I remember from when I was a 5th grade girl myself (oh, so long ago). We were even warned last spring, at the orientation for 5th grade parents that this was when the boys and girls started to discover each other, even begin to flirt in their awkward way...kind of like the rubber band shooting mentioned in another post.
DS recently told me that some of the girls in his class had made a "cutest boy" list. I can remember doing the same thing at about the same age. FWIW DS ranked #2, apparently due to his "cool hair."

. It's not until highschool that is really anything more than buddy/buddy anyway (in my experience, anyway ;) )

Oh boy--you haven't been watching TV much lately have you? Heard of rainbow parties--there are 7th and 8th graders doing this stuff.

Anyway, no dating until 16 though DD has a "crush" on a boy in her group. She did spend quite a bit of time figuring out which Valentine she was giving to him. Sheesh.

A friend of mine has a DD that she does that whole pushing to grow up thing with. Very sad really. This little girl--who is 5--has been having her nails done at the salon for well over a year now! She also talks to her friends on the phone and has sleepovers (or tries to as most of her friends are "too little") WHY? They grow up so fast anyway! :hourglass

No, and she doesn't date in 9th grade either. She would be allowed to go out in a mixed group, but the situation has never come up. In 5th grade, not a chance!

It's funny, my 4th grader's best friend is a boy. They've been buddies since they were 4 years old, and they still play a game they invented about being detectives and saving the world. But lately she won't ride the bus home with him because other kids will tease her about him being her boyfriend, when that is farthest from her mind! She has friends who are very into clothes and makeup, etc, which I don't like. Some of the girls are so mean at this age, she's happier playing with her buddy.
