Does wide right still work for RSR?

Our last trip to DCA was December 2013. We were there well before opening and right up against the hose on the far right. Consequently, we got to see McQueen or Mater or Red (I forget who) lead us toward RSR and were on of the first cars out.
It was awesome!!

Does this strategy still work?? Do the CMs still lead everyone behind a hose?

It did as of August of last year, sort of. So many people know about it now that there are people rushing and pushing others out of their way to get (and stay) to the far right.

I used wide right when I was at DCA in May last year (I know it's a while ago but still, haha) and I managed to be FIRST on the ride for the day! There were lots of people pushing and shoving and I basically had to battle with these 5 13 year old boys who kept running in the sidewalk to try and get infront. That is the only time I've ever gotten a little pushy at Disneyland and that's because I swear if I didn't I would have left battered and bruised by all the pushy people around me. Normally I don't condone in pushy behavior at all! So I would say yes wide right works but with the added crowds of summer and the 50th you'll need to be prepared to hold your ground!

Pushing and shoving? Wow, that's some obnoxious behavior. I would be in favor of security kicking out anyone who does that.

As you get close to the ride, Red the fire truck is on the left side of the road by Lugi's tire shop. Staying right doesn't hurt, but the word is out. We did RSR stand by only during early entry. We did not run and got on within 20 minutes on one occasion. The other occasion the ride went down for a bit, but we got on it within an hour.

I like to just get my fastpass out of the way and enjoy walking around I have heard that it does work!
