Title says it all. Just wondering if Vets get any discounts on tickets at WDW.

Thanks!!!

MJ

Disney world is like DCL no discounts for veterans that are out of the military. Only if you are retired from the military you get a discount or are active duty.

I am retired and I do not know of any organizations that do discounts for "run of the mill" Veterans. I did run into a gentleman at Shades of Green who didn't retire and he separate after Vietnam with 100% disability. Said he got to stay at SoG with his disability VA Card. So there may be some organizations that recognize VA 100% disability (which I am as well). I think some state parks recognize VA cards.

Whats funny at my local mall, if you ask if they do military discounts the reply is "with a non expired card." Since my career field in the Air Force includes working in the office that issues ID cards I had to ask further clarification questions on if folks were really showing expired cards. She said yes, some expired for close to a year. They claim they are too busy to get a new one. Uh, yea, that is a load of BS as it would be confiscated at the gate and if they happen to get pass the gate, the ID card is how you log into your computer at work.

Shades of Green does have specific months out of the year that honorably discharged veterans like my husband can stay there with proof of service, DD-214.

September and January are the months that you can stay there. If you search for availability you will see the Veterans Rate with DD-214 listed last.

On Veteran's Day, many companies gives discounts to all vets. Memorial Day also seems to be another day they have chosen to honor all vets. So, there are discounts for non-retirees, but they tend to be only given on holidays...

I don't think that's a SoG policy, but rather a specific military policy. If he discharged with 100% disability, he would be "medically retired." And the "retired" part is what counts.

My Loews give 10 percent off every day to veterans. Most Loews are not like this thou.

This gentleman was not medically retired. I also worked retirements when I was AD. In fact the majority of my careeer was assignments and retirements. I am just repeating what he told me. I didn't go to SOG website to confirm. He was just a chatty person at the table next to us inside Evergreens on SoG property.

Many people don't get their 100% disability for years after retiring. I didnt get mine for 4 months after my retirement and I was under an expedited program. Medically retired is something the military service determines BEFORE your official retirement date. In fact while meeting the Medical Evaluation Board, the service member is basically in a freeze status for assignments and separations. Once the MEB determines the service member will be medically retired they are given a short notice medical retirement date.

Disability is something the VA determines. Example, my brother separated from the Navy after 4 years and has no retirement benefits, but he does get a VA disability check. My uncle finally got his 100% disability (from Vietnam) about 18 years ago. He had to appeal it many times. He is not medically retired.

I get my service retirement check PLUS my disability check. Two separate checks from two separate organizations. One is not dependent on the other.

If you look under eligibility for Shades of Green, it includes honorably discharged with 100% service disability "Honorably discharged veterans with 100 percent Service-connected disability" as a category

Yea, it's a joke between DH and I when we ate out on Veteran's day the table next to us 'forgot' their ID and asked the waiter if they could show a Facebook picture of her in uniform. The waiter gave them the 'free meal' for Veteran's that day. So now we joke about showing FB pic as a form of ID.

Every holiday where Veteran's get a discount, I have been asked for ID.

Awesome. I wasn't questioning the validity of his statement. He isn't what the other person is calling 'run of the mill." He has a valid VA Card to show his status (I have the same).

Yeah, just saying that the category for SoG is a little broader than just active duty and retired. It includes some DoD workers, etc.
Doesn't include the vast majority of veterans, though.

Expired ID cards are to be destroyed or mailed back to the base upon separation. There is a letter you sign acknowledging this at your final out processing appointment.

I just show my I'd card when I got out. Back in 92
