Does Wal-Mart or Target sell the wrist safety harnesses?

Dh wants to get safety harnesses for our 18 month DD twins. I don't like the kind that go over the torso, but I can live with the wrist kind. Before I make a trip to Wal-Mart, I'd like to know if anyone has seen them for sale there. Target is 1 hour 15 minutes away, but we have some appointments near it next week. I hate shopping so I don't feel like just going in to check. TIA!

Yes, I bought ours from Walmart. It's an Elmo kind that goes on the wrist.
I have never used one of these before, but will be bringing it to Disneyworld.

I also have the monkey backpack one, that is like a backpack and the tail is the "leash".

We will see how it works.

I sewed one for my dd just to use in the airport if she got out of the stroller and walked. It worked out great because I made it from Strawberry Shortcake fabric, who she loves!

I posted this in the "leash" thread before. The harness leashes are safer for small children. Infants and toddlers, should NEVER be pulled by their hand or forearms because of the risk of an injury known as "nursemaid's elbow" (dislocation of the elbow) although it is very easily and quickly treated, nursemaid's elbow is quite painful for the child until the joint is re-located. A child running off and having the "leash" snap him back by his arm increases the risk of nursemaid's.

ITA with BadBlackPug. When my ds was that age I certainly would have dislocated his arm many times using just the wrist type leash. Lots of people use safety harnesses at WDW so you will not be out of place using it there. A pp mentioned the stuffed animal backpack style which are really cute. I have seen that kind at both Walmart & Target in the baby section.

I used a chest harness for my daughter last September when she was 2. Either type of harness, chest or wrist poses its' risks because my daughter (on more than one occassion) stumbled when she tugged too hard (by moving quickly away from me) which knocked her off balance. I can definitely see where the wrist leads would be dangerous and an arm could easily be yanked too hard. I definitely felt like the security of knowing where she was at every minute was worth it, but you still have to be very careful using them because they can get tripped up easily, at least that is what I found to be true for us.

we bought that Elmo wrist leash from Walmart and used it on our daughter when she was just under 2 yrs old. Well, there's no way she could've gotten her arm dislocated -- it was made so poorly that the INSTANT we put it on her as we got out of the car at AKL, she ripped it! (and we're not talking about an unusually large or strong girl here, unless we're talking 'headstrong" )

so for our next trip we got one of those "backpack" harnesses that ppl have already mentioned. ours came from Tarjay and is a doggy peeking over the shoulder. We have been trying it on our almost-4 yr old and her sister while they're in the house. they think it's *very* funny (and hopefully that will make it easier to get them to wear it at WDW!). we have even taken a trial run to the unoccupied upstairs portion of our local mall. the only problem I can see with it is while the handle and the backpack part are made of a soft plush animal material, the part that goes over the arms is not (maybe made out of some kind of nylon stuff?). so i don't think it would be comfy to wear with a sleeveless top.

WE hav the harness one that we bought for DD when we went to Disney when she was 15mos. She refused to hold our hand. It was for her safety that it was used. DS will wear one too. he is very verbally delayed and maybe autistic. He does okay at holding our hands sometimes but the harness has been a godsend.

I picked up two of the monkey backpack harnesses from Wal-Mart. I was surprised at how cute they are! Lydia was hugging her's - she loves dolls.

Thanks for all the wrist advice. I found out that WM doesn't even carry those anymore.

I'm glad I bought them. I'd much rather be safe than sorry.

Do the still sell the harnesses with the coiled, stretchy telephone-type cords? I saw two nasty accidents at WDW involving those longer, stretchier cords, and both times the kids got the worst of it...

We bought a great one for my 18 month old a few months ago. I use it when we go on outings. It's from Walmart. It's a bear and I think they have a monkey one too. Very cute and comfortable. It looks like the bear is hugging her and I hold the tail. She loves it and asks to sleep with it. She can't because of the tail, but she would sleep with it if I let her. We are definitly taking it to WDW with us in Oct. The great thing about this bear it was less then $10.
