...an equivalent of our football hooligans?

Rich::

Oh good gawd yes...One of our basketball players was just charged in a shooting incident at a strip club.

Let's not even discuss what our NFL players have done past, present and uuum future. ;)

Or are you taliking about fans?

He meant fans. Fans who seem more concerned with starting fights and creating bedlam than actually watching the games.

I'd put the Oakland Raider fans in that group. ;) :teeth:

Short answer, no, except for small-time stuff that true football hooligans in the UK would sneer at.

To those unfamiliar with the concept, football (that is, soccer) hooligans are erstwhile fans who use soccer games as an excuse to booze it up, rowdy around, start fights and otherwise act tough. There are different types: some who pick fights with fans of the other team, and some who simply go in groups to (and from) games, stopping in several pubs on the way in order to get properly loaded, and then simply act the way juvenile boys do everywhere and anywhere, when they're drunk and in a group.

A special type is the ones who go to games to shout racist epithets at Black or Northern African players on the opposing team. These are a special problem in Italy, but also in some other parts of Europe. The problem has gotten so bad that some teams refuse to play in certain towns; in other cases, the home team has had to forfeit the game.

The most notorious type, however, are those who travel to "away games" and plan on starting fights or causing a lot of damage. Quite often, they don't even bother to get a ticket to the game; it's just an excuse to go wild with your mates.

I don't think there is anything, anywhere that compares to this....and I'm a hockey fan! :teeth:

Myst

Maybe Football fans in Philly or Oakland or Basketball Fans in Detroit. but I really think we are amateurs next to the "Hooligans".

We pretty much save our mass rioting and vandalism for politics.

However, an occasional Super Bowl win or World Series win sometimes results in the burning of a city.

University of Maryland has had some serious problems recently with students and other fans rioting and causing quite a bit of destruction following a few of their football games. But nothing on a regular basis like the football hoodlums.

I have seen video from the bridal gown sale at Filene's Basement.
Yep, I've seen this...it's a no rules on this. Run, grab punch, kick whatever you need to do to get the gown you want.
