I have recently had trouble reading small print at work and went to have an eye test. When I explained to the Optician that I used the computer all day and was now using it at night to look at the DIS boards she said this (together with my age, 42 next week!) was the cause of my needing glasses to read.

Has anyone else found this to be a problem. I can't give up DIS so I have now ordered a pair of glasses! :earseek:

I don't recall Mickey wearing a pair!!!

Spending a long time each day on the computer certainly strains your eyes due to the glare. Using the computer/laptop in a very well lit room is a way of minimising strain, as is purchasing a protective cover (unless your screen has an integral antiglare coating) and sitting as far away back from the screen as possible. Taking a break every hour or so is essential as well. :)

Haven't found it to be a problem ..... yet!

I work in front of a pc or laptop all day, haven't found a problem personally but many of my colleagues wear glasses..it can be a strain on your eyes certainly.

It doesn't ruin my eyes only my marriage :rotfl: when DH wants to go to bed  and Iam DISing

I think it has more to do with your age than your computer habits. Most of us start to have vision changes in our 40's (it's called presbyopia--"elder eyes") and that's been going on a lot longer than the web has been around. Certainly computer users have to take care of their eyes, but the fact that you need reading glasses is not necessarily a sign of smoething bad.

Cathy--has "piano glasses", "quilt glasses", "computer glasses", and "reading glasses" all in different strengths

just watched the episode of lost where Sawer has the same problem as me so don't feel so bad!! Sorry about the spoiler for the Disers who watch on Channel 4 and not E4!!!!

Didn't realised that he Dised

Had an eye test last week and ended up with reading glasses today. Apparently the muscles in our eyes which control close-range focus are prone to a bit of failure when we hit our mid-40's; I turned 45 three weeks ago so the timing couldn't have been better!!

Yet another glasses wearer here, have worn them nearly all my life, and Im sure they are getting worse lol.
