I am taking my three boys (14, 13, and 7) to WDW the end of June and I am taking them by myself. This is a first trip for all of us. I am worried that I won't be able to make sure all kids and myself are buckled safetly, or the bars down, etc. in time for the ride to move. Does the ride operators check on kids/people before the ride moves? Maybe this is silly, but I am worrying about it.

In my experience, CMs are very thorough about checking that seat belts are fastened. More importantly, most rides have an indicator that shows whether all seat belts are fastened, and the ride won't work if someone's belt isn't properly fastened. (I know this first hand--my DS7 didn't have his belt fastened completely on Star Tours and the CM knew exactly which seat wasn't right--came over to us and told DS to check his seat belt.)
So rest assured! And have a great trip!
(Of course, there are some rides which don't have a seat belt--Splash Mountain comes to mind--but CMs monitor the cameras pretty closely and will stop the ride if someone isn't properly seated.) :sunny:

And PS--not a silly question at all!

A CM will definitly come by to check the lap bars, all coasters at WDW have a lap bar excepting Rock 'n Rollercoaster which has a shoulder restraint. Most coasters these days also alert the driver (main board operator) if not all the harnesses are locked. Disney does not have seatbelts on any of its coasters. This is for capacity reasons, and does not hamper the safety of the ride.

The rides that have seatbelts such as Star Tours, Tower of Terror, etc, are not visually checked but the CM's know if its been buckled or not as there is a master light panel with a light for each seat that will light when the seatbelt has been buckled. Once it has been buckled it cannot become unbunkled until the ride has finished.

I've always been worried on rides that my seat belt/lap bar won't be closed correctly. Thankfully it's never happened to me and someone's always come around and checked. I remember this specifically at Disney and the CMs have always been great with this. Don't worry too much, and have a great time! :thumbsup2

Thank-you all for making me feel better about this! I didn't want to mention this to my kids because they would think I was being a mother hen!!

As mentioned, rides with belts are checked on a light panel. Otherwise, CMs check everyone out before the thumbs up.
