Does Soarin' bother those with Motion Sickness?

My DH is very sensitive to motion sickness. He can't do Star Tours without being sick and I kind of thought that Soarin might be similar to that. Can anyone share their experiences? Thanks

I would think more than likely. I had to close my eyes for almost the entire time.

I cannot ride anything that spins in a circle or I get VERY nauseas, I also cannot sit through an Omnimax movie without feeling like I could throw up at any moment. Other than the first 2 seconds of Soarin ( I don't want to reveal any secrets) anyhow all that being said, I LOVED SOARIN'. I was really adament about riding and decided to go for it, and boy am I glad I did. We actually rode twice that day and I would have rode again if there would have been more Fastpasses. I now consider Soarin' a must do.

I can't do star tours and any other simulators anymore, but Soarin did not bothter me. At one point I thought I was feeling a little funny, but it quickley passed. I didn't even close my eyes.

However, if you do feel like you are getting a little dizzy, simply close your eyes. It does not move that much really. It is just like watching a IMAX movie.

Me too... Can't do motion simulators or IMAX films for that matter but I LOVE Soarin'. I was alittle apprehensive at first but promised hubby I would give it a try and I am really glad that I did. It's a great ride.

I don't think you can compare the two, Soarin' is very gentle and it doesn't move nearly as much as ST. There are a couple of scenes, the opening, and the downtown night scene, that I start feeling a teeny bit weird but the scenes are over so quickly, and then I'm fine. He can always close his eyes for a moment, but don't skip this... It's really wonderful!

I'm looking forward to riding Soarin this Christmas holiday. As long as it is nothing like Mission Space, I'll be okay. That ride made me sick for the rest of the day.

Absolutely not true! I cannot ride Star Tours (or Body Wars or Back to the Future, or anything similar). They make me sick, give me whiplash, etc.

I loved Soarin'. I'm afraid of heights and hate any ride that is at all rough. I don't do roller coasters, anything that spins, goes fast, jerks, etc. But Soarin' was an overall wonderful experience. Highly recommended for all. Both my husband and me suffer from motion sickness and won't do anything the least bit fast or rough and we both loved Soarin'.

I didn't have a problem with it. There was one point where you do feel like you are flying and it was a little unnerving but it passed quickly. We love going on the ride though.

I have to agree with everyone here and say you have to try it. It's much more gentle than other sim rides and there is no take off or landing (that's what I was secretly afraid of). I only said "whoa" at the beginning and had to take a deep breath, but was fine afterwards. Worst case is that you'd close your eyes. My only complaint is that it's not long enough!

I too cannot ride any kind of motion simulator, spinning ride or see IMax type movies. However, Soarin was NO PROBLEM at all for me! I loved it and did not feel queasy in the least. We went twice, once front row and once second. Try it! It's such a great ride, you shouldn't miss it. If worse comes to worse, you could always close your eyes. The ride is gentle and doesn't toss you around at all.

I'm another one that can't do any kind of motion simulator rides. But I had heard such wonderful things about Soarin' and was determined to do it. This ride was awesome, I was a little nervous at the beginning, kind of queasy, but I just closed my eyes for a second, and then I was fine. When we got off, I was a little shaky, but I think that was because I was so nervous from not knowing what to expect. I just wish I had decided to ride it again that day, it's a great ride!

I usually can't go on a lot of rides, but I loved Soarin and it didn't bother me at all. The problem is you really don't know until you've been on it. Remember to close your eyes if it bothers you and if you are scared of heights ask for the third row the first time, although IMHO the first row is best, BUT it goes up the highest, and until you know how you will feel you may be better off.

I have a problem with motion sickness. I don't go on the Teacups, Body Wars, MS (both made me feel sick for the rest of the day) and now Star Tours (just started bothering me lately, 10 years I could reride it, not now). Even watching Open Water (the movie where the Scuba Divers get left at sea) I had to walk out of this one because I was feeling so seasick (much to the amusement of DBF and DD12). With that said I LOVE Soarin'. Its our new favorite ride and even though I'm not great with heights either we always try for the 1st row. We can't help thinking about Soarin' and not smiling. Its Awesome. I agree with some of the other posters that there is a scene or two that bother me but I simply close my eyes.

I too get motion sickness and am afraid of heights but I had to try Soarin' at least once. I will definitely go agian. The first time I sat in the third row but now I want to try the second or first.

I am also afraid of heights and was very nervous prior to the ride starting. you will have no problems on soarin-it was very "pleasant" a visual feast-do not miss it

I too end up being sick on anything that goes around, and Star Tours makes me feel sick........but, SOARIN was great and I did not feel sick at all. My DH wouldn't go on with me though, he has no idea what he missed! What an experience!

There are two spots in Soarin' that might make him sick. I get motion sickness on most spinning rides and simulators as well as on Indy, Dinasaur and ToT to a lesser degree. I can handle most of Soarin' Near the begininng there is a shot in Yosemite where the "Hanglider" swings around next to the moutnains. This movement just starts to get me. Toward the end there is a shot over the Naval ships In San Diego that is always a killer for me so, now knowing where it is, I just close my eyes for 5 seconds. You will know it when you see it and the long swaying turn over the ships doesn't start right away so he will have time to aknowledge that it is time to close the eyes.
