Does rain close Disneyland??

So freaking out about the weather this weekend...do DL and DCA close due to rain?

Trying to stay positive, but it doesn't help the weather report keeps getting worse.

Regardless of the crummy weather, I am still really excited for our trip! We have our rain gear.

Also, does Cafe Orleans have indoor seating as well as outdoor? Debating reservations there...with the weather, I dunno.

Rainy weather is the BEST weather, because it deters visitors and makes the parks less crowded. If you can stand getting a little wet, it is so worth it, because lines are much shorter. Also Cafe Orleans does have some indoor seating, but not much. Try making back-up reservations at Blue Bayou. It's right across the way from Cafe Orleans, and you get to dine inside the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Neither park closes, but some rides may be closed. I'm sure someone on here can provide you with a detailed list of ride closures in each park due to rain. The only one I know for sure that closes is the tea cups. Also, some shows/events may be cancelled, such as Fantasmic! and fireworks. From what I've read, WOC still operates in the rain.

We have visited in rain and the best reason to go is NO crowds. It was in 2010 and it rained lightly (maybe a few moments of a hard rain the first day) and we walked onto every ride.

Just watch California Sceaming in the rain..... rain + spped = mini facial cleansing

The best ride for the rain is Jungle Cruise, it adds a whole sense of realism. Definately different that during a sunny day.

If you are with a child who enjoys characters, look around. We found very short lines for characters when it is raining. Places to look? Inside the Opera house in Disneyland, inside the Fire station area, and in Animation Academy.

Do not freak it is great, the locals won't show for the most part. Are you from OZ?(Not Australia).

If you see funnel clouds and houses circling in those clouds, then yes, it's o.k. to freak.

Disneyland in the rain is better than most other places on a sunny day.

Rain in Disneyland is the best. It's like having the place to yourself. Walk on most of the rides and get your pics at all the iconic locations without other people in your shot. One caution, bring spare shoes or most waterproof shoes. I was fine in Tennies but my DD was miserable in a pair of Toms.

Teacups will close, Alice will close, the parade will become a truck with characters in the back driving down the parade route but most other things are open in DL.

In DCA I'm not sure what closes but I would think maybe Goofy's Sky Skool, I know Screamin' is open and so are the swings.......

Here are some tips, get handwarmers, they are sold in most stores (we got ours at Rite Aid) in the camping department, you simply open them and carry them in your pockets to keep your hands warm, it's amazing how quickly they will heat you up and keep you warm. Take a shammy (Sham-wow) to wipe down wet seats, carry it in your bag in a gallon size Ziploc type bag, this will keep your other items dry and your Shammy will be ready to use in an instant, once you've wiped down the seats simply wring the shammy out over the side of the ride and your good to go. Take an umbrella, wear rain boots, bring spare clothes and keep them in a locker, it really helps. Most of all, enjoy the non-existent lines. Remember that there are quite a few things to do inside, especially at DCA, make sure you go into the Animation Academy, it's a great place to spend a few rainy hours.

I was surprised how dry we stayed in the pouring rain, years ago. The lines are shorter so you are inside the buildings for queuing. We wore our London Fog type rain coats and used umbrellas and we were nice and dry. Water does get on some ride seats so the cover on our back side was nice.

I can see how rain would thin out the evening or weekend crowd because locals will stay away.

But what about the weekday/daytime crown during the spring break weeks? Wouldn't those tend to stay the same since we've all paid for our packages and no way would we want to sit in a hotel and let our money go to waste??

Also, do you carry your umbrella on the rides with you or leave it hanging on a railing in the que?

You take a compact unbrella and take it on the ride.


Even at the busiest times crowds can be light with rain. It depends if it rains early to keep people from leaveing thier homes and rooms. If it rains heavy later to wash them out of the parks. When the parks empty because of rain, it often gets very crowded if the people can still go(such as over a vacation period) with the next sunny morning.

Even then, some people will have a rain aversion or serious health concerns and stay inside or cut their park hours short. Some folks just can't handle being cold or wet for very long.

I couldn't agree more! Panchos are the way to go. I never carry an umbrella inside the park. Way too much trouble. Footwear is important. If you've got rain boots and it is raining, wear 'em. Take care of your feet and they will take care of you.

Totally agree with the Jungle Cruise experience in the rain too!!

We were in WDW and I wore my golf rain outfit and my wife wore a poncho. She was so mad at me. The golf rain outfits are awesome. They breathe and they have zippers to open and close vents. They also have zippers in the bottoms of the legs to help put on and take off easily over shoes. Plus, they don't look too bad either. My wife now owns a golf rain outfit and she doesn't even golf.
