I would say you more than likely need portable speakers for you Ipod. I'm doing the same.

We had one in our room at the GF - but we were in a Honeymoon room so im not sure about standard rooms! I would buy them anyway as they are really handy!

I would buy the speakers. You can get some decent ones at Bed Bath & Beyond for around $50.
