Does Pirates of the Caribbean always break down?

We were there last week (came home today :() and we tried to ride POTC 3 times, standing in line each time, only for it to break down each time. Yesterday, we were there and were going to be the next group in and it broke down and then the lights went out in the main loading area. Does it ever work?

Anyways, it was a great vacation. Thanks to all the DISboarders for their advice.

Were you in line behind me at like 10:30 at the Jungle Cruise complaining about Pirates and Haunted Mansion both being down?

I had literally just gotten off Mansion, wandered behind Fantasyland to see the fireworks, took a quick ride on the abandoned Snow White and then hopped in line for Jungle Cruise when suddenly the folks behind me decided that was a topic worthy of a public conversation - like it was a big conspiracy and that all the rides in the park were shut down.

my father and sister got stuck for over an hour 4 years ago, and had to be escorted off the boats and through emergency exits!

No, we left after the Electrical Parade and never did the Jungle Cruise during our trip.

And it wasn't a quick stop for unloading. Every time we came back the big doors on the front of the building were closed

We've never had the POTC ride break down or any other ride at DW for
that matter. I guess there's always a first time...

Never experienced a PotC breakdown, not even on our last trip, when almost everything else had problems. Sounds like bad luck.

I didn't realize that it shut down as often as it does until I read all of these posts. We've ridden it more times than I can count over our 15 trips and it's never once broken down.

BTW what is Say Goodnight to George mean?

It's just a fun bit of trivia/legend/story/folktale/truestory/myth (take your pick.) The story goes that there was a worker o the POTC named George that was killed during it's construction and if the CMs don't say good morning/goodnight to George or if a guest says alound "I don't believe in George" that the right wil break down. We just view it as a fun game but seeing how the ride kept breaking down and it's October......ooooohhhh

In 26 years of living in Florida and Visiting Disney, I've never encountered a breakdown/delay on PotC. I have on a few other rides, but not that one. Maybe something needs replacing/fixing on it right now.

We were at the MNNSHP on Sunday Oct 3 and we broke down. We were stuck for over an hour

They stopped the music put on the lights and had to manually evacuate us off the boats. There was a nice CM who had to get into the water and push the boats to a place where we could climb off and exit through a back door. We were then led through the back lot where you could see where they store the parade floats. It was kind of cool except my foot was killing me from the race the day before so walking the extra half mile or so to get back into the park stunk. Also anyone who was on the boats missed the 10:30 parade so if you hadnt seen it earlier you were out of luck.

They did give a free fp to a ride for everyone on board and they would have issued tickets to another MNNSHP for us but we left on the Tuesday and couldnt use them.

I had never seen the ride stop for more than a couple of minutes prior to that. It was a hassle as we missed quite a bit of the halloween party but was kind of cool in a way too.

It was George. We have never had PotC break down on us until our last trip. I told DH the story about George and while we were on the ride he said "I don't believe in you, George" three times. Sure enough, the ride broke down.

On 10/3 PotC was down for over 3 hours. They finally got ut back up during MNSSHP.

Yep everytime my DH says this, something happens while we are on the ride. I slap him everytime!

I've ridden POTC at least a dozen times, and have never experinced it breaking down. You must just have bad luck with that ride.

Lilmattie13, we were on the same boat you were on. :)

too funny. It sounds like our night wasnt the only night with problems lol

We rode it the following night with no problems. We are heading there in Nov so we will see how it goes then.
