I haven't got round to eating in Ohana for a few years - not since they brought in the new menu. We used to love the food. But, I'm reading a lot of bad reviews. Has it really gone down that much? We thought about eating there on our first night, but don't want to go if it isn't that great anymore. Have you eaten there recently?

We liked it. The atmosphere was fun, the meat was kinda dry, and they did bring things out kind of fast, but all in all we enjoyed it!!!

I keep hearing about the "new" menu and it has made me curious. What was the old menu? What did they get rid of or replace? I feel like I missed out.

I don't remember exactly what they replaced, but off the top of my head, I don't think they have shrimp anymore and I think they have noodles instead of rice. Also the dessert has changed. I think it used to be coconut cake, but don't quote me on that.

The shrimp is still there, but maybe cooked a little different, I'm not sure about noodles or rice, we didn't have any. The only things I didn't like were the Salad, and the stir fried vegi's. We had

Fried Wontons served with peanut sauce, chimichurri sauce and harissa
Mixed greens with a honey-lime dressing

Spicy-sweet and sour shrimp
Honey-coriander chicken wings

Marinated Sirloin Steak
Asian Barbecue Pork Loin
Mesquite Grilled Turkey
Hawaiian Pork-sausage with pineapple terriyaki glaze

Maui Scalloped Potatoes
Stir-fried Vegetables

'Ohana bread pudding a la mode with Bananas Foster Sauce

I ate there for the 1st time at the end of Aug and it was AWESOME.

They no longer have the skewers of shrimp like the meats. The shrimp they have now is an appetizer and I didn't care for it. It's in some kind of sauce and you need to peel it very messy. They also used to have pineapple with caramel sauce for dessert. I forget the dessert now but I liked the old better. We went once since the change and didn't care for it it's off our list.

I know that the dessert that they had before was pineapple with a caramel sauce to dip it in. Although I havent eaten at Ohana's since the menu change one thing I wouldnt complain about is the dessert. The banana foster bread pudding sounds great. I have reservations to eat at Ohanas in November so I will report back

We ate here for the first time last month. It was not one of the restaurants that I was at looking forward to and ended up being my FAVORITE meal. The potatoes were amazing, the chicken wings awesome, the meats fantastic, and I would have eaten as much of the bread pudding as they could have brought (and I hate bread pudding). Everyone in our group LOVED O'hana. We tried to get into it again during our trip and couldn't. It is now a MUST DO for us!

We were the opposite. I was so looking forward to eating there. Then we had over a half hour wait for our ADRs. This was the only place where we had any kind of wait and it was during the first week of free dining in August. Then they stuck us in the back where we couldn't see what was going on.

The shrimp was messy and not great. I'm not sure because I think I got 2 of them before my DS ate it all and there was nobody around to ask for more. I didn't care for the potatoes, I had one chicken wing and it was just ok. I don't like messy food like that. The meat was ok, but a little dry. I didn't like the bread pudding and neither did anyone else. I'm surprised because usually my DH likes that kind of thing.

I don't think we'll be going back unless they have some new things on the menu.

Yes, 'Ohana is awful. No one should eat there. Partuclarly during February 2008, when I am in the World---stay away!

(Oh, and stay away from all the other restaurants I plan to eat at too! ;))

Yeah it really stinks on ice now. If anyone happens to have a reservation say 11/23 or 11/24 (and for 5 people), I'd go ahead and cancel if I were you just because it sucks so bad. Oh, and I'd post it here that you canceled just so those who may have missed how much it sucks the first time will see it again.

My wife and I ate at Ohana last week and we really loved the experience. That said, I think I agree with the poster who said that the food comes out too fast and isn't all that great. I know that I felt that our food courses came out very quickly with an eye towards getting us out the door that much faster. The peel and eat shrimp are somewhat messy, but I thought they were fairly good. The pork sausage links were the only truly awful part of the experience. They were dry, tough, and hard to chew. I didn't finish the one I was given. They look much more appetizing than they are. I asked for seconds of the pork loin and the steak... I thought they were the best of the meats. The sides were good as well (I fancied the scalloped potatoes particularly).

We had a front row seat for the festivities however, which made any issues we had with the food seem pretty inconsequential.

I have to tell you that the atmosphere there is great but I didn't like the food at all. My husband did however. I thought the food was terrible my kids only ate the chips that they give when you sit down ;-(

We ate there last November and loved the food. We are returning in a couple of weeks. My picky husband actually asked to eat there and it is very rare he puts in a request. My son 23 months at the time ate like a pig here. They brought him out uncrustables and french fries for no charge plus he ate some of our stuff too. It really amazes me the bad reviews it gets. We tried it for the first time last year and have no pre-menu change to compare it too so maybe that is a plus. LOL.

I have not eaten at a restaurant yet in Disney that I have absolutely hated and would swear never to return to, but one of my least favorites was Ohana. The server we had was nice, but I think we saw him twice throughout our meal. He was never there to refill drinks or anything and we never even got some of the meats. The beef skewers never came around to us and there was really noone that we could tell since our server was nowhere to be found. I also hate peel and eat shrimp!!!!

We waited an extra 1 1/2 hours to get in here on our last trip (walk-up) and cancelled our ressie at Kona. We just love Ohana. The atmosphere, the food, the dessert! It is all great...it is one of our favorite places!

Thanks for sharing we were thinking Ohana's next trip and those posters with a positive experience convinced me to book it!:cheer2:

Our server was slow on bringing the beef too. We had to wave someone down to get him over on the last visit. This used to be a must do for us on every trip. We loved the old menu much better. Now, I try other restaurants, then we catch this one every 3 trips or so. Hate the sausage... I am shocked they still serve it.

You can read my review to see what I thought of it:

I realize that my main problem with this trip to Ohana was poor service. However, besides the service, the food is just not that good anymore, and the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired. Honestly, for a first night there, I would think you might want something relaxing and less hectic, crouded and wait-filled than ohana. To me, ohana is so very hit or miss (and in my opinion, almost always miss anymore), I think you would do better to start your trip off with a more reliable option, like Kona Cafe perhaps.

As for the old menu, it used to have:
Pinapple sweet potato bread to start with (I heard they still serve this at breakfast- it used to be my fave part).
An assortment of hors'd'orves served on a lazy susan at the middle of the table. Some of the ones I really miss are the dumplings and the little pork on kabobs.
Lo Mein and rice.
Salmon that came out on a seperate plate (not on a skewer).
HUGE shrimp served on skewers.
The pineapple with caramel sauce- what a perfect ending to a full meal- not too heavy of a dessert, and delicious.

HTH!
