Gosh, I love listening to Live 365...the music from Spectro was just on, and I had the best flashback!
I was at MK on New Years Eve 2004, as a chaperone with my son's hs marching band. On the same type of trip with my older son in 2000, we had learned a hard lesson -- do NOT trust a travel agent who says offsite guests can get into Epcot at noon on NYE! (They wouldn't listen to me...) We had spent the morning at AK, with the plan to switch parks at noon and spend the rest of the day at Epcot. WELL, best laid plans and all that, of course the park was full to capacity, so we spent that NYE in our hotel. Fun, but not exactly "magic". Anyway, in 2004 they DID listen to me, and we entered the MK at 9 am and had a wonderful, long, crowded day with 70,000 "friends"! Yes, it was shoulder-to-shoulder, yes it took hours to get out of the park, but standing on Main Street to watch the fireworks on NYE, what an experience!! Anyway, my fellow chaperones and I had dinner at Columbia Harbor House and decided to just relax and wait for Spectro near there when we were finished. We were sitting on the walkway near the ropes, just chatting, when a family sat down behind us, a mom and two boys, about 9 & 3. I asked the boys if they wanted to sit in front of us to see better, and the little one proceeded to not just sit in front of us on the walkway, but plopped right in my lap! Although I was a bit taken aback, we had already been chatting a while, so since the mom did not seem uncomfortable with it, there he stayed. His name was Tyrone, and we had a great conversation while we were waiting -- what parks he had been to, his favorite rides, etc. But when Sprectro started, so did the magic for me. He was SO enchanted by the floats and the music and the dancing characters! My kids are teens, so it has been quite a while since I had seen a parade through a preschooler's eyes. I have to be honest -- the parade was not half over before my foot was asleep and my legs started to cramp, but there was NO WAY I was going to let Tyrone leave! LOL After it was over, we gave each other New Years wishes and went our separate ways, but sometimes I wonder if Tyrone ever thinks about that lady from Ohio who he watched the parade with ~
