Does Jetblue routinely cancel or reschedule flights?

I posted the other day about seeing our flight coming home missing off Jetblue's website. My DH called and Jetblue confirmed our flight and times and said that maybe it was removed because it was full.

Well, tonight I checked my itinerary again, and now instead of 10:05 pm, we are on a 6:30 pm flight!

Do the airlines routinely cancel and change people's flights without telling them? No email, nothing. I had to pick our new seats and all the rows with the wider legroom were filled up now. Sheesh, there was a reason I booked early. To get a better price and to get good seats, or so I thought.

It's a good thing I didn't give our TA the flight #'s and times because now I'd have to change it.

So, does this happen all the time? I haven't flown in years so I don't know. All I know is that my friends rave about Jetblue and an acquaintance that worked for them said that they rarely cancel.

Our flight time was changed once and they sent me an email asking me to reconfirm with them that this time was OK. If I didn't like the change and I wanted to go on another flight the change fee would be waived but if there was a price difference I was responsible for it.

it's only happened to me once in years of flying with them and it was only 10 minutes and they called me and left messages 3 times before i called back to tell them i got the message

if you don't like what they did, call them.

I am going to call them on Monday, and I also just sent them an email.

They should have at least sent an email or something! And my DH spoke to them yesterday too!

Now I have to cut our last day short.

why are you going to wait? i'd call them right now. the longer you wait, the less your options.

I don't fly jetblue myself, but from what I know (at least with west coast flights) this is not typical.

Good luck

It is very unusual for JB to change/cancel flights. This is one of the reasons they open their dates so much later than the 'legacy airlines'. But, I notice that you are flying in about 5 months. That's pretty far down the road, so they wouldn't send out an email. They would if it were sooner to your travel date. At least I'm assuming that.
We have to be proactive in our travel planning. I know that even though I fly with JB for the most part now, I still check my flights on a daily basis. They can change, although it doesn't happen often, and I want to know about it asap.

Call them and make any necessary changes. Do not just assume they can't help you.

For the record - ALL JetBlue's rows have greater than industry-standard pitch.

Until recently, rows 1 through 11 had 32 inches between the back of one seat and the back of the seat behind it, while rows 12 and beyond had 34 inches of space.

By the end of the current month, JetBlue will have removed a row from near the front of each plane - increasing the 1-11 pitch to 36 inches while keeping the rest of the plane at an also very comfortable 34 inches.

As the others have said, JB doesn't typically change/cancel flights but it does happen and unfortunately these days you can't always rely on the airline telling you, you really need to check your flights on a regular basis to watch for changes in flight times (which is exactly what you did so you're probably already ahead of other folks on that same flight). And like bradk said, call now, don't wait until Monday.

We've had a flight booked with JB to California in June since December and I check the flight periodically just to be sure there have been no changes.

We are hoping to fly JB in 2008 (BUF-Cancun, 4 passengers). Since these will be pricey flights, I am just wondering how Jetblue is doing financially?

In 2004, I booked flyi (independence) and then found out that finanically they weren't doing well. From now on, I would like to book financially stable airlines.

Any info. would be really appreciated.

Thanks

I'm going to call them anyway, but I don't think there's anything they can do because now the 6:30 flight is the last one for the day. I think there is another flight besides mine that's missing off the list too, like maybe 8:30 or something. I remember because I was going to pick that one but the 10:05 flight was cheaper. I hope between now and August they add one more later flight, so I can try to get on that one.

I just hope they don't change my flight going to Disney. They have a lot of them in the morning and when I check my seats, it doesn't seem to be filling up.

I think JB is fine financially but this is one reason why it's good to buy trip insurance, if you purchase within 14-21 days of purchasing your airfare you are covered for financial default (the # of days you must purchase it by varies depending upon the insurance company).

This week was the first time JetBlue changed a flight on me in about 7 flights. I did get an email to confirm I knew about the flight time change. My seats did not change just the time by 10 minutes.

It was known for a long time that IA was in financial trouble. I had an extra trip to WDW in December 2005 so I could use up a free flight I'd earned with them, because word was out that they'd be out of business by the end of January. Before that, the airline had been in bankruptcy for most of its short life and it was widely announced in the news here (of course, this area was their hub).

Maybe try checking flyertalk.com or even these boards to see if anything comes up about JetBlue's financial viability (news items that affect us go up pretty quickly here). Right now they're not even in bankruptcy.

how many airlines ARE financially stable? isn't it something like 3 out of the top 4 are in bankrupcty?

Delta is in bankruptcy. United is supposed to be emerging from it. US Airways merged with America West.

Thanks you guys!!!!! So, I go on record here, saying that one of the things I love about JB is that they don't change my flight times...so, what do I see this morning?? Yep, they changed my flight from Tampa to Boston. Moved it up by 30 mins!!!! I've jinxed myself!

I wonder what the odds are that they will move a passenger from a nonstop flight to one with a connection. I'll cancel the flight to avoid a connection.

Well that FIASCO they experienced recently had an earnings impact so they have to cut some costs now.

JetBlue Revises Earnings Guidance
NEW YORK, Feb. 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- JetBlue Airways Corporation (Nasdaq:JBLU) today announced revised first quarter and full year 2007 guidance to incorporate material changes in its projections due to the service disruptions resulting from the February 14, 2007 New York metropolitan area ice storm and related recovery period.

For the first quarter of 2007, JetBlue now expects to report an operating margin between negative four and negative two percent based on an assumed aircraft fuel cost per gallon of $1.89, net of hedges. The Company's pre-tax margin is expected to be between negative ten and negative eight percent for the first quarter 2007.

JetBlue estimates it will report a full year 2007 operating margin between eight and ten percent based on an assumed aircraft fuel cost per gallon on $1.94, net of hedges. The Company's pre-tax margin is expected to be between three and five percent for the full year 2007.
