Does It Seem Hotter in AK Than The Other Parks?

I know that sounds silly, and yes, I'm asking that question to be silly! :teeth: I've been to AK many times, and I swear that it always seems hotter to me than the other parks! I know that this can't be true, but my friends and I have always joked that the "magic" behind Disney made it hotter to give you the REAL feeling of being out on a "safari". Of course, this wouldn't explain all of the parts of the park being so hot (since Everest is a cold mountain), but hey, it's fun to pretend that's the reason! :sunny: I'm sure the real truth of the matter is that the attractions are so spread out and there is a lack of air conditioned gift shops, that you have to walk what seems like miles to get anywhere. Has anyone else felt this way? :)

I'd swear to it. AK was the only park that exhausted me.

I agree it is the hottest park--because of the attractions being spread out probably. I think MGM is really hot also.

OMG! We were there in April and I was wondering if they somehow heat the park to keep it closer to the animals natural habitat. I am always hotter there! :sunny:

I think it's warmer because the foliage is dense, to resemble Africa, the rainforest etc., and it holds in the heat and moisture.

Actually I just read in a tour book ( I think it was "Cheapskates guide to WDW) that it IS hotter in AK ...They say its because of the many tropical plants that add to the humidity. I just read that like 2 weeks ago and thought it was interesting.

We always "feel" hotter in AK. We thought it had something to do with the foliage... it is hard to get a good breeze because the walkways are surrounded by the beautiful landscaping. :flower1:

I think it could be all of the plants. They are so thick no breeze can get thru. I will have to say that I love AK we normally go in the fall so I never really noticed that it was "hotter" than the other parks. But when we went last June I noticed. :sunny:

I agree, it is very hot in AK :sunny: and they have those mist fans blowing which doesn't help too much. AK is my least favorite park for the fact that it is hot and a nightmare to push my DD in her wheelchair up and down those hills and walkways. UGHHH!
I am hoping we can skip that park on our next trip but I doubt it.

Oh YES! LOL
First of all this is how we found Raffiki's area one summer- it was the only place with A/C and it was packed!
We always are in Disney in July so it is Hell hot when we go. We only last half a day at AK. Sometimes if FL is not in a drought they run misters full steam. We always say you can tell how Disney is doing by how cool the AC is blasting. Feel hot- sell your stock :rotfl2: company can't be doing well

DW and I have always thought that AK was hotter than anyother park, and for that reason, we do AK 2 mornings only, and do other parks in the afternoons.

As I too am always hotter in AK than any other park I had to research it. I found that Disney does their part to make sure that we all have as much of an authentic trip as we can. In doing so, they have gathered foliage from all around Africa and Asia to plant in AK so that it is real. With these foliages they produce certain humidities that one can only feel when in these countries. Thus, making AK the hottest part in Disney.

I am so glad to see this post! We have always thought the same thing! We have avoided AK since our trip in 1999 for the exact reason. This year we are planning on revisiting AK during our trip in October, hoping that the weather will be a little nicer to us so that it will make it bearable to spend the day there.

Oh yes, most definitely. I've always noticed that. I was at WDW the first week of March and was very comfortable with a light weight warm-up jacket for Epcot & MGM. When I got to AK and was in line for EE, my friend and I looked at each other as we were peeling off the warm-up jackets and fanning ourselves and said, oh boy, this is going to be bad news in the summer months. I just flat out don't go to AK from May to October! :sunny:

It seems hotter, because it is hotter. When Disney was trying to determine where to place the AK, they did thermal readings and the land there always came up 5 to 10 degrees hotter than other areas.

They felt that would be a good thing during the winter for the animals.

Bad for humans during the summer. Also the heavy vegetation does not allow for air flow and the heat just seems to get trapped.

Yes it is hotter. We have been to Disney every year since it opened and only went to AK once. The air does not move there.

I do not care for the park because of that.

I mentioned it to a CM on the phone last week and he even said I was right.

Just the design of the place I guess

According to the A&E Special that they had on WDW, WDW does make it hotter for certain animals.. If anyone has the show tivo'd you can go to the animal kingdom part and listen to what they say when they are talking about the Lions and Tigers. .... OH MY! :)
