Does It Seem Hotter in AK Than The Other Parks?

I read this and immediately remembered how sweltering it was at AK. I will make sure and limit my time here in September!

YES!!! I fill my mister fan like 20 times in that park! I don't know what it is but I can't take the heat in AK

Yes it is hotter due to the dense foliage. There is less air flow and plants make oxygen. So not only are you feeling more heat, you are feeling more humidity. You will get the same exact effect on Tom Sawyer Island in the MK also due to the dense foliage.

My husband thought it was just me being a wimp! We were there in 1999 for our honeymoon in August and I had a mild case of heat exhaustion. I felt so sick and had to buy a cooler shirt because I was so hot. We spent a while in Rainforest cafe so I could cool down before getting on the bus. I did fine in the other parks but AK did me in!

I am glad to know that other people feel the same way.

Not only is it hotter, but I think there are fewer water fountains there than the other parks.

I also think that Disney/MGM Studios is the next hottest park. At least they have plenty of water fountains! :teeth:

Glad to see this post. We are planning to spend a half day there, b/c everything I read said you can do AK in a half of a day. And it's going to be our first day there. I'm glad to see in advance that if we are heat exhausted all the parks will not be that way. :cool1:

Wow! I guess it really is hotter. We did AK on our first day last August and I thought we just hadn't gotten used to the Florida heat yet. :sunny:

oh my goodness! I have realized this too! hahahha, everytime we go its where we get the most sunburnt and tired....I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this :teeth:

OMG! I am so glad I am not the only wierdo that thinks that! :rotfl:
I have ALWAYS said I get hotter at AK than the other parks. Don't know why... :confused3 ...it makes NO sense at all to me  ...but I always get just exhausted and hot when I'm there!

The bit I heard about this.. went further than the foliage.. The land is actually at a lower elevation and the geographic features that surround the park tend to make it warmer. This was done intentionally for the benefit of the animals AND plants that would be in the park.

AK is hotter and with it spread out and becuase of the attractions there is a lot less air conditioned areas to relax in. We tend to go their in the winter only.

I guess I am the odd one here. Every time I go to AK it is always the coldest day of the week. Last time I was there I was wanting to buy a sweatshirt.

I want to go with you then! :teeth: :lmao:

We have always thought the AK is hotter than any other park. I guess we'll never be sure of the real reason why, but it sure is good to know that we aren't the only ones that feel that way. We really aren't crazy are we.

It is hotter! My DH once asked a CM if it was just his imagination and she told him that its always 5 to 10 degrees warmer at AK.

I think it's warmer because the foliage is dense, to resemble Africa, the rainforest etc., and it holds in the heat and moisture.

BINGO! Good Answer and absolutely correct. There are very few open spaces so no breezes blow through. The only comfortable place I ever found was standing on the bridge just before you enter Asia. The one with the view of Everest. Shady and breezy. I stood there forever.

Yes that is what I posted earlier in this thread. They did thermal readings on the property even before the park was built and plants were installed. It was always hotter.

I know that sounds silly, and yes, I'm asking that question to be silly! :teeth: I've been to AK many times, and I swear that it always seems hotter to me than the other parks! I know that this can't be true, but my friends and I have always joked that the "magic" behind Disney made it hotter to give you the REAL feeling of being out on a "safari". Of course, this wouldn't explain all of the parts of the park being so hot (since Everest is a cold mountain), but hey, it's fun to pretend that's the reason! :sunny: I'm sure the real truth of the matter is that the attractions are so spread out and there is a lack of air conditioned gift shops, that you have to walk what seems like miles to get anywhere. Has anyone else felt this way? :)

Defnitely.
