Does it really "feel like" 110 degrees?

I was there May 28 and 29, a sunday and monday. It wasn't even June yet and sunday's high was literally 96-97, with humidity the feel like temperature was definitely close to 110.The day started without a cloud in the sky which meant that the sun+ the oppressive heat+ the humidity+ no breeze made this the hottest day I've ever been at a Theme park.By 6pm clouds rolled in and cooled it off but by that time I was wiped out!! Monday was a lot better temperature wise and there was even some breeze. But some days can be ridiculous as to how hot it gets!!!

We were there during this time too (May 25th-30th) and it was hot w/ no breeze or clouds in sight. We usually go to WDW in the late fall so we were not used to the humidity. We're from Southern California so we are used to the heat, but that humidity can get you.

In the words of DD "Mom I'm sweating in places I'm not supposed to!"

This is why we go in the fall and winter. ;)

I think I have been living in the Northeast too long but I can't stand the heat and humidity. When it gets over 90 around here it feels brutal to me.

A lot of it depends on what you are accustomed to.
I live in Western NY where it rarely hits 90 and the humiditity generally doesn't get too bad. I've also lived in Florida.

The good news? Frozen Raspberry Lemonade! Splash Mountain! Kali River Rapids! Afternoon breaks to swim! And the 3:00 1/2 hour thunderstorm.
It doesn't cool down at night which is tough for northerners.

Plan air conditioned stops at regular intervals in your touring plans and take full advantage of EMH - it's always a little better after dark. Get one drink for two of you to share so you have more cold ones.

Y'all are hilarious... Just stay hydrated and have fun - it's not that bad - Unless maybe your from the Northern Territories in Canada...

How's South Dakota sound?

YEAH it's that bad! :lmao: We hit 110 around here often enough "but it's a dry heat" . . . the humidity down there always kills me at anything over 85.

We are from Minnesota, and we go every July and December. You are all WIMPS! :)

Make sure you keep close tabs on the condition of your family. If you are getting tired, head back to the room to relax, swim, watch TV and/or read. We always do sit-down dinners at a park during the summer as well. Mini-golf is also great at night.

Enjoy the pools! Many other times during the year you can't enjoy the pools. Also enjoy the ice cream. Those who go during Thanksgiving and/or Christmas don't get to enjoy the euphoria of eating ice cream when you are REALLY hot!

Of course, the best piece of advice is to drink water... LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of water. Don't pay attention to the price. Just drink!

Have a great time! Use TourGuide Mike's recommended strategies for least crowded parks and summer strategies. Pace your family (remember it's a marathon!).

We'll see you back next summer! :cool1:

Everyone is making this Maine girl a little nervous. I don't think I have ever felt what 110 degrees feels like. Does it make you feel ill all day? It doesn't sound very fun. We usually visit in November and are going in August this year. I was expecting the low 90's in August, not feeling like 110! That would really suck the fun out of my free ddp.

It IS pretty hot. When we were there in July last year the index was 115 a couple days we were there. It was brutal, but we expected it, so we just kind of dealt with it. I think we got tired more quickly, and we probably did not do as much, but that is part of the reason we go for a week. We like to take long breaks during the day. My biggest complaint about the temp is that the pools get so darn hot that they are not the least bit refreshing.

I grew up in Las veags where it really gets to be 110 degrees. I have never felt it in Orlando where it feels like Las Vegas. 110 degrees makes opening a car door feel like an oven.

In Orlando you have humidty where it makes 90 degrees "feel" like 100 degrees because you sweat so much.

A few years ago, I accidentally found a great way to keep our toddlers a bit cooler in the stroller. I usually freeze a couple of the 8 oz water bottles in the room's refrig/freezer and put them on bottle straps (Mickey, of course!) to use in the parks. I let my son play with it and it had become a family ritual when the parks are hot, hot, hot.

I loop the strap thru the stroller handle (so it doesn't get tossed out) and do not break the seal on the bottle. They play with the very cold bottle, the water starts to melt and it becomes a "rattle". Eventually, we drink it but it is a great plaything for for staying cool but not getting soaked.

Be sure to keep the lid sealed on the bottle. It would be a major choking hazard and they could dump the water before you were ready to use it.

I also take a small diameter umbrella to the AK.

I'm a wimp but will go to WDW any chance I can, even if I have to sweat my way thru.

Two words: Misty Mate :teeth:
check it out on Ebay. I always bring my Misty Mate with me. My two daughters also have their own. Even in the humidity, it is a lifesaver !
When you're standing on a crowded line and you're just about ready to jump out of your skin, you'll wish you had one. It's not like one of those misting fans, not at all. It's smaller, you don't need a battery to operate the fan, and the mist that comes out of the Misty Mate is very fine.

Have Fun!

Low 90s don't usually hit until September.

I've heard that, and it just blows my mind. But then, I'm a cold water wimp, and really only want to go in a pool if the water is above 90. Maybe my skinny little ds will finally be able to go swimming without shivering. My dd, on the other hand, has no problem swimming in the Columbia River when the water temp is 55, so we'll have to see how she fares in the bubbling cauldron swimming pools!

It really does. Not only is the sun frying your skin, the air is so thick with humidity its hard to breathe! I'm from New York and I hate Florida in the summer. Just be sure to wear strong sunscreen and drink lots of water! Oh, and Animal Kindom is hotter than the rest of the "world" due to the plantlife surrounding the park.

We live in Indiana and I haven't found the humidity in Florida to be any worse than here really.

In fact, I just looked at weather.com and at noon today...
In Indiana - 85, humidity 57%
In Florida - 87, humidity 57%

:confused3

Just a word on heat, humidity and hydration. Obviously, when it's as hot as it is, your body with attempt to cool off by sweating. Unfortunately, with the air nearly saturated already, your sweat doesn't evaporate and you don't cool off. (That's why when you step into conditioned air you feel so cold - the sweat quickly evaporates into the low humidity.) Even though you're not cooling off, you're still losing water from your body. Your body has a limited capacity to replenish the water it loses, something like 16 ounces per hour. So my point here is to expect to be hot and stay hot, and drink water at regular intervals throughout the day. Good luck.

Dewpoint is a better indicator of how the humidity is affecting your body's ability to stay cool. Dew points in the 70's indicate a relative humidity that is stifling. Dew points in the 60's and below are very comfortable. Dewpoint in Indiana, Mississippi and Kissimmee are all 72 degrees right now. Phoenix, AZ, however has a dewpoint of 41 degrees.

Is it always that hot and humid in Indiana?

Yep, pretty much, but only from about mid-June through the end of August. And I don't think it's as constant as it is in Florida... we do get an occasional cold front come through that will cool things off for a couple of days. :)

But even though we experience the same 'step outside and can't breathe because the air is so thick' thing here, doesn't mean I'm willing to head to Florida in the summer! I do not like the heat and humidity, no matter where it is, lol, so when we go on vacation in the summer we head NORTH, to Lake Superior. :thumbsup2
