Does it matter where your points are from?

Why do people put in there post to rent or transfer points where there points are at? For example: " I have 30 SSR points available to transfer". Why does it matter? Aren't points-points?

Hi Lori. Welcome to the DVC Boards :)

Points are supposed to carry their original characteristics so they should only be available for SSR until you are within the seven month reservation window. At seven months then you can use your points at any of the DVC resorts.

Lori-

It also helps to know the Use Year and current status of the points. You won't want to rent points that expire in, say, Oct 2006 if you want a Jan 2007 stay.

When you see someone offering simply "100 points for rent", you need to get more info. And as Jim C says, where the points are (the Home Resort) determines the timeframe for making a reservation and where it can be made (11 months or 7 months out).

If my mom transfers some points into my account from resort A and my aunt from resort b but I own resort c will I be able to easiliy tell the individual point collection in my account after all this? Will I find out if some of the points have expired when I try to book? Is it worth using a point tracker that I have seen somewhere on this board?

Thanks This point thing seems confusing.
