does home resort matter when it comes to switchin

If you want to switch to another resort at the 7month window does it matter which resort you are giving up?? Is there any advantage to one home resort over another when it comes to switching out to another resort?? For instance does someone giving up vero beach or HH have the same trade power as someone giving up bcv?? or is it equal

All DVCs are equal at the 7 month window.

Diane is correct.

But there is an advantage having a WDW home resort, say VWL and you want to switch to BCV at 7 months. The 'standard' practice is to book VWL (or what ever your home is) at 11 months as a back up so you know you will have a place to stay at WDW. Then try to switch at 7 months. If your home is HH or VB you do have the same booking advantage as every other DVC owner, but you can't make an on site back up reservation at 11 months.

Basically, ALL DVC MEMBERS ARE EQUAL AT THE 7 MONTH MARK.

Another possbile advantage is the rent trade board.

Say I'm a BWV owner with the 11 month window and I REALLY REALLY want VWL in early December. I might look to trade with a VWL who REALLY REALLY wants standard view rooms over Food and Wine.

i.e. Within the Disney system, it doesn't make any difference - you might decide to work outside the system, particularly if you have something sweet to dangle.....

There is really no switching at all- you are making a reservation at a DVC resort within 7 months and cancelling the unneeded reservation. You don't even need to have an existing reservation at your home resort to make the reservation at another resort. You are not trading reservations - just cancelling one and making another.

As already mentioned, if you have specific dates in mind , it's nice to have a reservation in hand as a back-up and then try for another resort at 7 months, but the existing reservation does not play a role in getting the reservation at the other resort.
