Does Grad night affect DTD and DQ?

I am still trying to figure out what day will be best for us to go to DTD and DQ. We were sort of planning on Friday afternoon and evening but I am now thinking it might be better to go earlier in the week.

Does Grad night affect how crowded it is and/or do the "locals" tend to come out on Fridays afterschool and in the evening?

We were there this past May and were leaving DTD about 6 or 7 p.m. and bus, after bus, after bus, after bus, after bus, was unloading teenagers at DTD for GradNight. Many choose to go there as well.

I don't know if they just stay in the Pleasure Island area, but we had a horrible time traffic wise getting out of there and around the buses.

Grad Nites take place in April and May at the Magic Kingdom. Some pre-event festivities make use of Pleasure Island as a staging area (to keep the traffic flowing into MK manageable). Pleasure Island will have a delayed opening on evenings that are scheduled for Grad Nites this year. You can find those dates on the Walt Disney World website under the Special Events section. The students are fairly well supervised during their time at Downtown Disney, and as far as I know, they are not allowed outside of Pleasure Island. Since most schools participating are local and bus in the night of specifically for the event, Grad Nites should have little or no impact on DisneyQuest.
