I ALWAYS tip housekeeping - at WDW and everywhere else we stay for work or pleasure.

Now especially at WDW with the cutbacks in the budgets for Resorts. Mousekeepers are sometimes still working on rooms at 5 and 6 o'clock in the evenings - bless their hearts!

We leave a few dollars daily and always look for our Mousekeeper when we leave in the morning. A cheerful "Good Morning, How are You?" ensures our room will be cleaned next and ready for us when we return in the afternoon.

The few dollars we leave each day means FAR more to the Mousekeeper than it does to us in the long run....and simply budgeted into our vacation funds. I always have a large stack of ones for just this purpose.

Try it. It will make YOU feel good!

We have always tipped both at WDW and other hotels we have stayed at. These folks don't make alot of money and the few dollars a day that we leave certainly help out.

I do not tip housekeeping, I always felt that was covered in the price of the room, which is usually over $150 a night as it is. I MIGHT consider tipping this time, but doubtful.

Tell me something, if you eat in a restaurant, don't you expect the food to be brought to you? assuming you are paying the price listed for the food?
But I assume you tip the waitress/waiter.
If you take a cab the cabie is paid a salary, and you pay a specific fee for the ride, what it says on the meter, but I assume you tip him right?

The guys that handle your bags DO get a salary, they don't work ONLY for tips, but I assume you tip them?

I have a son who is a cook at a Pizza house but he also sometimes delivers pizza. He gets tips for that but his base pay is $12 an hour.

So why shouldn't someone who cleans your toilet, and sink and tub, vacuums your room, makes your bed and brings you towels deserve a dollar or two a day in tips?

So why would you assume that Maids are just part of the cost of the room and do not deserve to be tipped?

I have been a chambermaid at various points in my life and always was paid Min. wage or below, so tips were vital just to survive.

I never tip housekeeping, but then again I never allow housekeeping into our room either. I do all the cleaning up myself, and if I need fresh towels, ect, I go out in the hallway and get them from the cleaning personnel on our floor.

I LOVE the towel animals that are left in our rooms....and I LOVE returning to a fresh & tidy room. I would miss that by not allowing them in the room - and after 9 days in the room....I think I would WANT new sheets and my toilet cleaned!

I guess we have been lucky, for the most part, our Mousekeepers have DESERVED a tip for above average service.

Let's not forget people.....we are paying through the nose for accommodations at Disney. An extra $2 or $3 a day is minimal when you think about it.

Maybe Disney will start automatically charging a mandatory 18% gratuity for housekeeping as well. Just kidding. We always tip when ever we are at any hotel. They work so hard and in my opinion deserve it

Really?

We tip housekeeping at any hotel. Usually $2-4/day. As many others have said, housekeepers are paid very close to minimum wage and after all, they are picking up after us and ensuring that we return to a clean and tidy room. They are providing a service and we are thanking them for that service...

Hey - how many of us have seen rooms which are total and complete disasters as we walk through the hallways. Think of a teenagers room on steriods!

They DESERVE a tip to handle those rooms!

We always tip $2/day, everyday, regardless of what type of accoms we are in. There's only 2 of us in the room, and we keep it tidy. (okay DH does nothing to keep it tidy but that's another story...LOL!) Considering how much money we spend when we're on vacation for an extra dessert in the afternoon or when we see something in the shops, the tip we leave for housekeeping nothing really. And, I know they probably appreciate it.

Anyone who doesn't leave some kind of tip should be ashamed of themselves. These people are working for a living cleaning up our messes, to me that's just plain cheap!:sad2:

Always.

The tip will vary based on type of hotel/resort, what type of service we got and how many in room. Last few trips to WDW it was just two of us and I tipped $3 per night. I got excellent service, lots of toiletry items and towels. If all of us usually $5 per night.

We almost never tip housekeeping at hotels. Partly because we leave the "do not disturb" sign up most of our stay. I only like housekeeping to come in maybe once the entire time I'm there. If I ask them to bring me extra towels, I only tip if they've done it in a timely manner. If it takes them an hour or two...no tip.

Also, we keep our room really clean. And we basically use the same towels the whole week. If we need them to come in our room, it's usually just to empty the trash.

I see you are from the midwest. We once stayed for several days in a small rural motel in the midwest for a reunion. Everyday we would be gone all day, we would leave a few dollars on the bed. Every day we came back to our bed all made and the money laying on top. The day we were leaving we took all the dollars and just left them in the room with a thank you note. I understand why you don't tip given you don't use the service, but is it midwest thing that they wouldn't take the tip ???

I had never thought about tipping mainly because whenever we went on vacation when I was a child we never tipped so I never thought about it till I came here. However, we always left our do not disturb sign on our door and we kept our room clean ourselves. I still do that now when we go on vacation. When my sister and I went to our first trip in WDW last summer, we never took the sign off. We did get a bag of fresh towels everyday though.

That's pretty harsh don't you think? I NEVER tip because I too always leave the "DO NOT DISTURB" sign on the door.

We always leave a tip for housekeeping at any hotel or motel we stay at. We usually leave $3 or $4 dollars per day.:)

The only time we don't tip is on the days when we specifically ask for no service (like if someone is sick and just wants to nap and rest during the day in the room), and when we stayed at SSR we didn't tip everyday since we didn't receive housekeeping (although we did tip on trash/towel day and the day we checked out).

Well, I can't really speak for the ENTIRE midwest. I just know that if you were in a rural town, people in those towns are generally super honest. They probably didn't realize it was a tip and they weren't about to take money that was laying on the bed.

I don't know if it's a "midwest" thing to not take a tip. But people in the midwest are generally more honest (not all of them, of course.) But I'm sure people out here will gladly take a tip if they realize it's a tip and if it's deserved.
