I always leave a few dollars for the housekeepers. That is not a job I would enjoy. If a few extra dollars might make a difference to them then I am happy to leave a tip.
I can't remember what state I was in (AZ maybe?), but at a conference a few years back they (our conference organizers) made an announcement at one of our seminars that the housekeepers did NOT make minimum wage and asked us to please consider leaving a tip for them. Before that I never tipped hotel housekeepers.
