Does everyone pack this early??

I'm suddenly having a MAJOR panic attack!! I've spent so much time arranging PS and planning our days (or at least trying; with a 17 mo DS I know everything will change.) Just reading this post I'm freaking out! Seemed like I had so much time, now it's two weeks. Suitcases are going on the floor tonight. You all gave me a rude awakening. Thanks so much!!
Brier Rose, great idea about the toiletries. I always end of forgetting an item because I'm packing that stuff while my DH is loading the car! I'm going out tomorrow and buying an extra of evrything!

I am so glad to know that I'm not as bad as some of you. ;)

We start gathering items up about a month in advance and thowing them into a Rubbermaid type container. And don't actually start packing clothing until about 3-2 weeks ahead of time.

I am also guilty of buying clothing reserved just for vacations and not allowing anyone to wear the new clothes until we're officially on vacation.

This weekend I just started "pre-packing" In our hallway upstairs there are three piles. One for me , one for Dh, and for DS - if you know you are taking something to WDW - throw it in your pile. I think DS has the biggest pile but so far it is a Sorcerer Mickey from last years trip , Stitch, hulk arm floaties, and a Buzz Lightyear spin toy also bought last year - LOL. he is going to have one heavy suitcase the way he is starting to pack LOL

We are going in May and my mother is starting to pack now - I am very scared!!! She did this last trip and when we got to the airport she had to pay for an overweight suitcase. We went for 12 days and she brought clothes for about a month - plus about 15 pairs of shoes (I'm not kidding). This year I will weigh her luggage - I might even have to become the luggage police and make her open her bags to see what she is packing. :p

I love reading threads like this. There are others out there like me.

We leave for Italy in 12 day. The spare bedroom is all packed, just need to put everything in the luggage. :)

I haven't started packing but then again, school starts tomorrow! I have been so busy getting the kids ready for school. After they go , I will start getting stuff together. I think it is good to start early, that way you are less likely to forget something. I have to get airline tickets too, EEK!

I don't necessarily "pack" early, but those lists are written and rewritten for weeks ahead. We have four children, two DS and two DD, and I began our Disney trips by color coordinating them when there were just two. Everyone always comments how great the pictures look when everyone matches, so now I feel the "pressure" of matching the colors. Don't get me wrong, I too like the look, but sometimes drive myself crazy with matching.

Surprising enough, the kids are now 5, 10, 11 and 14, and still enjoy matching their colors. They wake up in Disney and say "What color is today!"

:p

Now I don't feel so bad. My little secret is that I keep a Disney tote! It's packed with all of the essential items. This way the only thing that I have left to pack is clothes. :p Actually today my husband and I are going through the tote just to make sure everything is in there.

After reading your post, I had to go out and buy new socks and undies too! I never thought about our suitcases being searched:eek:

We have our essentials always packed and ready to go. I have the Land's End Toiletry bag and it's great. Tried the Freedom bag and didn't like it as well. We have duplicates of everything and just replenish when needed. Rain ponchos still in suitcase pocket from last year.........Just waiting on our new FTP luggage tags!

I have 2 weeks left and just wrote out my list today w/everyone's name on it and a column for misc. I threw in all the stuff I have been buying lately --toiletries, etc. dh thinks I am crazy, but he never worries about anyone but himself, so the rest is up to me. I have to scale down my list bc we are flying this time and I am used to throwing in anything and everything, just in case.

Anyway I am so excited I can hardly stand it.

We head out for the airport this Thursday morning at 6:30 - we will pack Wednesday (I'll actually do it Wednesday night for myself while my wife will do it during the day for our 4-year-old DS).
