Does everyone do room requests?

After reading numerous threads and posts, I am beginning to believe that we are the only people who don't put in room requests. In fact we like the element of surprise in not knowing quite what you'll end up with. I can see how you might have a favorite location at your home resort (or another that you visit often), but I find it amusing when people talk about requesting specific rooms at resorts that they've never been to. Please don't take it personally if you fall into that category, I'm just wondering if there are others like us out there who enjoy getting to experience different views etc., and who will never be disappointed that we didn't get what we really wanted.

I must end with saying that we did put in a request to be on an upper floor for our first trip home to BLT. We loved it when we ended up on the 16th floor. However we have never bothered to request this again for any subsequent trips, and have found things that we liked equally on other floors.

Don't make room requests and have owned for over 10 years (with 2-5 trips a year). I don't remember ever being unhappy with my room assignment. I never thought it a good idea to request specific room numbers since the assigner will have no idea of what you really want.

Not for WDW DVC, but I have for VGC to have the PP view. I'm one of those if it works out great if not that's fine too.

I like the element of surprise also!! I do remember staying at WL (hotel) one year and getting a pool view and being VERY disappointed the next year to get a woods view. [the first year may have been a free upgrade I can't remember].

Anyway, by the end of our time there, I LOVED the woods view. We were on the bottom floor and the kids went out there and performed 'shows'. It was just great.

The only think that I will request (if applicable) is a room with a balcony. I have to have a balcony or patio everywhere I stay!!

I almost always make some kind of request...depends on what resort we're at. At BLT, a higher floor and/or even numbered room. At BCV, top floor. At BWV, or AKV, close to the elevators. At SSR, a specific section (so we don't get stuck with the Carousel again.) Our very first trip to WDW, we stayed at BC, and all I wanted was a full size balcony. All that being said, at VWV a few weeks ago, I just kept forgetting to make a request - and we got a lovely corner villa on the top floor, overlooking the pool and the lake. It was probably my favorite room so far in 8 stays. So you never know.

If you do make room requests, you are more likely to be disappointed if you don't get what you want. I try to be as generic as I can. If you don't make room requests, you may get a pleasant surprise.

:) We have never made a room request. But I think at Pop we lucked out to be on the third floor in the back of the building where it was quiet. We do not have children. So far we have been in the same "bead"-different rooms at Kidani. I am just happy to be there. I keep waiting for the end of the hall room at Kindani. If it is on the Jambo side, we would be OK. If on the other side...hmmm:guilty:

We're probably half and half and half the time we've made a request is due to a medical issue.

We have but they have been pretty simple--at BCV last year and for BLT SV this year, it was "anything but first floor".

For BLT last year, we simply stated "even #'d room" so we would hopefully be on the outside of the resort.

For BWV this year, we did not put in any requests since we have BW view and figure anything will be fine.

We don't usually make requests, but do on occasions when we feel it will help for our overall plans. If I were to make a request at OKW, it would always be building 45 or 46!

SInce they went to non smoking the only time I have a request is if I am traveling with a friend and then all I request is close to each other.

I find that requests tend to result in upset since people don't seem to be able to seperate "request" from "reality" and pin thier hopes on something they may not get.

Well, I have to laugh when I thought about your question. The few times we've made a room request, it didn't really matter. We've almost NEVER gotten our room request! :lmao: I don't get specific either, as I realize the more specific you get, the harder it is for the resorts to honor.

That being said, I almost always request specific areas if booking at OKW or SSR (e.g., Turtle Pond and Congress Park). At AKV, we booked a value, so we requested a savanna view, of course. Other than that, it's been luck of the draw.

We've owned for 14 years and the only request I make is to NOT be on the bottom floor.

We request for an area (Turtle Pond) but that's about it.

We have made requests for general areas- Hospitality house, above general store at BWV, and close together for multiple rooms. Will it ruin our trip if the requests aren't met? Nope- never has. We've gotten our requests about half of the time in the last 10+ years.

Isn't it true that you now can't request a specific view in a value room at AKV?

We requested being near each other at OKW, since we have multiple units booked. Don't know if it will happen...Sometimes a break from the togetherness is okay;)

At Disney, since they made the resorts smoke-free (yay:cool1:), our requests have always been just "upper/high floor" --- except for when we book AKV Jambo house, in this case we only make a Savannah view request if we book a Value room.

We don't spend a lot of time in the balcony so it's not as important for us to get a certain view. But we do like to stay on the upper floors. A few years ago, we had the dreaded dumpster view at VWL (although it was on a higher floor) and found that it wasn't a big deal for us. We went out there once and didn't notice any odour or anything. But we did find that because we were near the end of the hallway, we rarely heard any hallway noise (ie. kids and adults running around or screaming), it was nice. I didn't appreciate the view, but we agreed that the room was great and it was quiet so we spend most of the time in the parks, pool or inside the room.

In resorts outside of Disney, we do tend to make requests (because of allergies) like Nonsmoking and Non-pet rooms (or away from Pet rooms) . I'm still surprised that there are hotels out there that cannot guarantee a nonsmoking room. :confused3

Never make a room request and have to honestly say: we always get fantastic room views!!! I think it's the opposite effect: room assigners/front desk CM's are so relieved by no room request they go out of their way to make it a good assignment.

Last Aug. at BLT we even got the MK view with a lake view reservation. (the "secret" MK views, not the regular ones you book). We've also been upgraded from standard to pool/garden view at BWV. Always lakeside at VWL--and never a dumpster. We always manage get into our room early too. Life is good. (And even if we did get a less than stellar view, no big deal.)

I tell people to give it a try....you never know!
