Does DVC cause you to spend less money on junk?

We no longer spend very much on the trinkets and things. Alot of it has to do with the boys getting older and with the number of trips we take. We still like to get a t-shirt now and again, ocassionally I will find something in World Showcase that strikes my interest or maybe a Christmas ornament but other than that I doubt we spend over $200 a trip anymore on souvies.

You know, last trip we ended up with more junk than on previous trips. We took my mother in law and her sister and treated. Their response was to buy us a few thank you gifts. Mostly Christmas ornaments. Which was very nice of them (and I have a thing for ornaments). So we spent about as much on junk as we have post children (we travel in fall, so we get something for under the tree for each of the kids, plus something to take home, plus everyone gets a shirt (generally something nicer for DH and I than a tshirt - a sweater or polo we can wear to work). DH ends up with several caps - because he forgets them in the room and then buys another one.

DH and I buy a lot of clothing. Especially t-shirts and sweatshirts. They certainly get their use when we get back home. Recently we began puchasing disney picture frames. I change the pictures around in them through out the year as a change of pace. We dont buy items that collect dust such as globes, knickknacks and such. I am amazed to see parents buying thier children many items that you know the child will toss aside by the end of their vacation. It must be all in the experience.

Only because we have given our kids the option of earning Disney dollars for our trips by doing extra chores around the house...

Now they have there money to spend as they please... and I find they are much cheaper when it comes to spending their money over mine::yes::

I on the other hand spend more on Pins than I used to.... :wave2:

I think it's a trade-off. Before joining DVC, we didn't go often, so thought we had to buy more when we had a chance. Now that we are there more, it probably averages out!

Our kids earned $ on the trip -- Each night we reviewed the day: If they didn't fight til after breakfast, they'd earn $1, if not til after lunch, another $1, til after supper, another $1, and if they succeeded ALL 3 times, their total was $5! There was incentive to keep the peace all day. What it bought was that extra trinket they didn't need, or that extra ice cream we knew they wouldn't eat! For other purchases, we set a $ limit for the week, so they made their own choices.

I love it!
