For the first time since many years of Disney planning, I am having a hard time getting the room I want for an October 2016 trip. Many of the deluxe resorts have no availability listed. I am having a hard time believing that so many rooms are sold out this far in advance.
Does anyone know if Disney puts rooms aside to release at a later date?

My dates are Oct. 18th-22nd.

They don't in the sense of release. Some conference hotels, like GF and CR may have room blocks set aside for conference organizers that will re-enter the system if not booked by a certain date.

There are resellers who also book large room blocks.

Yep when you factor in groups, conferences and resellers, it's entirely possible that there would be limited availability. The Gartner Symposium is a huge yearly convention and it is scheduled for October 16-22. It will take place at the Dolphin, Swan, Yacht & Beach Club and Boardwalk.

as the previous poster mentioned, if Gartner booked blocks of rooms, the unbooked ones may be released at some point.

Thanks....I just cant believe how few there are in Disney's system right now.

I had to go via a reseller to get the room/category I wanted to extend my stay on a split stay. (Not enough DVC points, so after my villa booking I wanted to flip into a resort room.)

I think it's a combination of issues. Gartner is one, they take a ton of rooms. I looked at your dates, Oct 18-22. Limited availability, as you said. Trying Oct 18-23, many more rooms open up. Would staying a little longer be an option?
It's not easy anymore to book extra days and drop them, either.
October has become a really popular time to visit WDW. If you have something that might work, I'd book it. You can always see if you can change later as things might open up.

Between Food and Wine festival and Fall Breaks in most of the Southern schools there is more and more people heading to Disney in Oct. That doesn't even take in to account the conventions mentioned above

Ah Hah! That makes sense!

Thanks...we're doing a cruise that leaves on the 22nd. I do have a room booked at the Coronado just in case.

Thank you for all the replies!
