Does Disney card parents?

Leaving for Disney in two days and as I was looking at the Hoop Dee Doo confirmation email, I saw the probably typical “guests over 21 must show ID” language. However, I honestly don’t remember being carded the one time we went. If it’s pretty obvious we’re over 21 due to having kids with us and looking like harried graying parents, do they card? Since we have magic bands, I wasn’t planning on having my wallet with me much. Thanks!

They carded me when I was there about 2 weeks ago. I’m 39. I’m often with my DD 21… I was carded there and at every Epcot WS pavilion minus one and honestly the one not asking made me a little sad.

I was carded in February when I had my 9 year old with me. It’s always a good idea to your ID anyway even if you don’t want to bring a whole wallet all the time.

Always carry your ID with you.

My in-laws (not at Disney) have been carded in front of us (who were long beyond the 21 age anyhow) even into their early 60s lol

But yeah just carry your ID even if it's not for alcohol reasons.

I replace them over time after they get way too grimey and worn. Majority have been purchased from a local Hallmark store that sells Vera Bradley products (including Disney) bonus is that I can use coupons and rewards. My last one (purchased last month) I got for just under $2 because it was on sale for 50% plus I used some Hallmark Reward dollars.

This takes up almost no space really in terms of what you carry IMO

I’m 34 and still get carded everywhere at Disney/Universal etc so I’m gonna take that as a compliment haha but I really hate having to carry my passport around with me just in case. I’ve heard they’ll accept a photocopy or picture of it along with another form of ID but have never wanted to risk trying it out.

i always leave passports locked in the room safe. Taking them out is way to risky.

They stopped carding me in my 40s. They use their discretion so you never know what cast member is going to card you.

Some places are ridiculous, like several years ago at a Hooters, this man in his 80s didn't have his ID and they wouldn't serve him. Some places decide to just ID everyone as policy to make sure that their employees don't accidently sell to someone too young. With drinking age being 21, you can easily be in your late 20s/early 30s and pass for younger. It is offensive when you get to be middle age and they think that they are being cute in asking for your ID.

I've heard CMs tell guests that a photo of their passport is sufficient and I always have a copy of mine on my phone (in a secure system) but we've never been asked for ID there since I was in my early 30's.

I am from the U.K. We (my children are mid 20s) carry our original driving licences and a copy of our passport plus a copy of both on our mobiles, and that has always been accepted at both WDW and UOR.

One time we went to a casino near here and all three of us girls walked with our significant others and the guys got carded but none of us girls did. We were all in our mid to upper 20s (don't remember exactly) at that time. It wasn't like a club or something where you may expect girls to not get carded.

Honestly though sometimes the waiter/waitress asks my husband but then forgets entirely to ask me or vice versa. Sometimes they realize after a pause that they really should be asking both of us. I don't get mad or offended I can prove regardless if need be I'm old enough But in general we tend to not get carded. It can happen though (speaking generally across places all over) and it's why when we went last May to WDW I made sure to renew my DL early since it would have expired on my birthday when I would be in Universal.

My mother-in-law used to get really upset when waiters/waitresses or retail workers DIDN'T ask for her ID because she would put See ID on the back of her payment methods. This was back in the day when that was actually more important before fraud protections were standard. Of course she wasn't doing it for verification of age but yeah still.

I just am sharing with you what Disney's stated rules are.

Bottom line Disney is responsible for verifying age, and with such an international place no way for them to be able to recognize every countries legal ID.

It is the law in this country to prove you are old enough to purchase alcohol. In many places everyone, even the blue hairs must prove their age. Because they have to card younger people the only fair way to do it is card everyone.

Every time someone doesn't card you they risk their job if that person is compliance officer.

I got carded at age 40 at AK, but husband and kids were already seated rather than in line with me. I carry my ID just in case. They may just be following policy, but I take it as a compliment when it happens.

Thanks that makes more sense. Carrying passports in a crowded theme park and going on rides is a recipe for disaster.

I can see how its a little harder in the states with a minimum age of 21. But surely only in rare circumstances would it be required over 30.

I don't disagree with you at all. The whole drinking culture in the US is messed up. It comes down to some companies not wanting to deal with having their employees making a bad judgement so they just tell them to ID everyone.
