My 12 year old is begging for it. I'm wondering if I could get some opinions. There seem to be so many different pads out there and then do you want the X-Box or Playstation brand (DS has both systems).

He says we could play together and its a good excersise which sounds fun but still at $75 or more for the game and 2 pads I would love reviews first.

Thanks :sunny:

I have never seen it or played it, but just yesterday I was talking to my sister and she told me she bought it for my 11 year-old neice and she said she loves it and played it ALL DAY on Sunday. She has the Playstation version

They had a church lock in Friday night and a boy brought his and they played it all night long!!!!

I think it could be a great way to stay in shape and would probably help JC with stamina for football, baseball, basketball etc.

My sister said she saw a guy on the Today Show who lost 70 lbs from playing the game (plus diet, I'm sure). That is what gave her the idea to buy it because my neice is overweight and she had expressed a desire to lose weight.

This game is huge on the boardwalk here. People are so good at it, and crowds form to watch them do it. You would definitely lose weight playing it. I feel like a burn calories just watching someone play it. Looks like tons of fun. I don't know much about the setup for home. Some of my kids friends have it though, and they are 4years older then your son and still playing it.

My boss bought his family the X-Box version of the game (and an X-Box to go with it). DDR is hugely popular among the teens in our area. On of my son's friends regularly goes to competitions and is ranked as one of the best in the the state of Ohio.

It's fantastic - a work-out for anyone that's truly trying. There are four different levels; you pick the level that you're comfortable with and work from there. I hate aerobics; I love this.

I'd recommend investing in a nice pad, one that will last and not slide while you're dancing. The wires break easier on the cheaper pads. There is at least one pad that works for both PS2 and X-box. My research showed that the metal pad was hands-down the best, but since shipping was $50  , I bought the best pad that we could get locally.

I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

*** Does anybody know if there is a DDR that uses Christian songs? ****

I don't know about Christian songs but I saw a Disney Version on Ebay!

If you don't mind what brand mat did you buy????

I have it. Mine is play station, it's ddrmax2 (the game) and I'm not sure who the pad is made by, but in the middle it says 'stay cool' (my mom bought it on amazon). It's a lot of fun and really funny to watch everyone do it. The game I have also has an exercise mode and tells you the approx. amount of calories you've burned. You can set it up so it will tell you when you've burned a desired amount, you can put your weight in and what not and it'll help you calculate how much you want to burn. It would probably be much more fun with 2 pads to play against eachother, but if you're wary about the money maybe you could buy 1 pad and see if you get your moneys worth out of it, and if you do then you can purchase the second pad. Just a suggestion.

tricia.

I have it, and let me tell you, while it is fun, it is alot of work!! The first few times I did it (as I had never played the dance games before) I had to do it slow. It does get easier the more you do it, but it will keep you in shape. It even keeps track of how many calories you have burned (if that interests you).

Hi! My DD20 bought DDRMax for our Playstation2. She sings and dances every summer at a local theme park, and she loves this game. It is a good workout and a lot of fun. My DD13 also enjoys using the mat, and they both go into hysterics when their older brother tries it. It can be quite comical watching people do the dance steps on the mat.:)

Really, though, it was well worth the money. Everyone has fun with it and when my kid's friends come over they all want to try it. :)

I'm addicted to the game. I have the playstation version, where you can do the workout version and it tells you the equivelent of jogging, jumping rope and swimming. Plus they have cool songs. *Buy it!!!*

It says Redoctane in the middle of the mat; I believe that's the name brand. I think this mat is the same size as the arcade game. We have the mat that only works for PS/PS2, but for $20 more, we could have had the version that works with X-box, too.

and I would love, love, love to have the Disney version, but did you see the price?!!!

Last time we were at DisneyQuest, DD11 spent hours, (and I mean hours!) playing this. She would LOVE to have this for our game system but we have Gamecube and I don't believe you can get it for the gamecube....if anybody knows differently, please clue me in.

We have it and it is a lot of fun. The kids are really good at it. If you get the Xbox version and you have Xbox Live, you can play it online and you can also download (for a cost) extra songs. I think it's 5 songs for $5.00 and I believe there are like 5 downloads, but I wouldn't swear to that. My kids could answer that more than I could. If you're interested, I can ask them when they get home and post back later.

I remember reading one of your posts at one time where your family was having this really good tasting dinner and I remember you were having a weight watcher's meal? Maybe I'm wrong with my memory, but in case I'm not, I wanted to add that I saw a lady (and I cannot remember which channel it was on) on TV who said she lost over 100 pounds just playing this game.

Trust me, it will give you a workout, but it's a fun one. I highly recommend it for that reason alone.

Oh, I only have the one pad for it. It came in the package for either $70 or $80 at Circuit City. I'd like to someday pick another mat up, but I feel we use it, but maybe not enough to buy another mat.

Another thing, this afternoon, I got a free Playstation Underground magazine. They send them to me from time to time and there is something about a new DDR on PS2. I'm not sure if it's a playable demo, a movie about it or what it is. It might be worth checking out.

edited to add: Go to your local arcade, usually the ones in the malls have this game. Watch the kids sometime. They love it!

Sorry to say there is no DDR for the GC. You could probably pick a used copy up for the regular playstation (I'm not talking the PS2) on eBay fairly cheap and I know you could pick a regular Playstation up cheap. It might me an option?

It also goes back to the Dreamcast days, so that too could be an option if you're not wanting to pick one of the more expensive systems up.

Another suggestion to the OP. I would take one pad that comes with the game initially. See what you think of it before investing all that money into a better pad. I've seen them on eBay and they can (or were at Xmas time anyway) running $100 a piece, plus shipping. Granted, if you're going to use it a lot, this is what you want, but if you find it's not for you, I wouldn't want that kind of money wrapped up in it. The pads that come with it are pretty good and you'll know what you want to do after you try one. We've had about 20 different kids on ours, plus my husband and I use it too and this mat is holding up just fine for our needs.

We bought the game and the mat separately. Did you buy a special promotion or something?
