I'm 20 months post op from GB (lost 140 lbs). I don't expect special service when I go to a buffet restaurant. I look at it in the way that "I" chose to have surgery, not the restaurant and thus don't expect special service. Now, I did not eat at a buffet for the first year after my surgery. Now that I am further out, I go to buffets occassionally and usually just get a "dab" of this and that and a good sized salad.
WE have reservations for Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace. I'll just get what I want. I don't even carry around my Bypass card anymore. I'm going to these places more for my son than for me and I'm on the dining plan so I don't consider it a waste.
He needs to think about Quality over quantity. I'd rather eat at Lecellier than Crystal Palace. I have more control over what I'm eating.
I know that some buffet restaurant's don't make exceptions for Gastric Bypass/Lapband patients. Golden Coral is one of them. But I figure, Hey, They didn't make me have this surgery, so why should I expect them to cater to me. Now When I was early out of surgery and eating regular food, I did order off the children's menu a few times from a Lonestar Steak house without a problem. But usually I stuck with Soup and salad or grilled meats and veggies.
Good Luck to your husband. Lap-band takes a heck of lot more vigilance on his part to loose the weight.
