Does anyone with Gastric Bypass still go to Buffets at WDW?

If so, do you get to pay the child's price? How is it handled?

Do you call the restaurant first? Do you avoid them all together?

My DH has had lap-band surgery and wants to know what to expect at WDW.

Thanks for any and all info.

I'm 20 months post op from GB (lost 140 lbs). I don't expect special service when I go to a buffet restaurant. I look at it in the way that "I" chose to have surgery, not the restaurant and thus don't expect special service. Now, I did not eat at a buffet for the first year after my surgery. Now that I am further out, I go to buffets occassionally and usually just get a "dab" of this and that and a good sized salad.

WE have reservations for Chef Mickey's and Crystal Palace. I'll just get what I want. I don't even carry around my Bypass card anymore. I'm going to these places more for my son than for me and I'm on the dining plan so I don't consider it a waste.

He needs to think about Quality over quantity. I'd rather eat at Lecellier than Crystal Palace. I have more control over what I'm eating.

I know that some buffet restaurant's don't make exceptions for Gastric Bypass/Lapband patients. Golden Coral is one of them. But I figure, Hey, They didn't make me have this surgery, so why should I expect them to cater to me. Now When I was early out of surgery and eating regular food, I did order off the children's menu a few times from a Lonestar Steak house without a problem. But usually I stuck with Soup and salad or grilled meats and veggies.

Good Luck to your husband. Lap-band takes a heck of lot more vigilance on his part to loose the weight.

Bump.

BTW, thanks for the info, We don't have a problem paying full price but will avoid buffets a bit but it's our friends that want to go to Boma's and Crystal Palace.

congrats to your DH! i'm 2 years postop tomorrow (lap rny and -200 lbs!) and would do it again in a heartbeat! when i go to a buffet, i just get what i know i can eat, in the quantity that will satisfy me, and to heck with everything else, lol (usually about 4 to 4.5 oz of lean meat, and 3-4 bites each of two veggies). i've got a restaurant card, but i've never used it, and probably never will, b/c most restaurants don't accept the cards. i can tell you that last september at the princess storybook lunch at epcot, i was allowed to order baked chicken (which wasn't on the menu) with mashed potatoes & corn, and my waitress couldn't have been sweeter about it. if your DH isn't bashful about it, heck, why not ask if he can order off the kid's menu on your first night and see what happens?! you might just get lucky!

DH is almost 3 years post-op. He has lost 250 lbs. We still go to buffets here and at Disney. He just knows what his limits are. He does try lots of things but maybe only a bite or 2 of each.
We will be on the dining plan and plan to split meals . I wouldn't worry about it . He should be just fine.
