Does anyone here wear T.E.D. hose? On my last two WDW trips I developed horrible 'hives' on my legs that turned out to be intermittant claudication.:sad1: I take some meds that cause edema (plus I'm nearly 45 and about 30 lbs overweight!). My PA said that I should use TED hose (support hose to the max). I am not sure about these. I'll be going to WDW the last part of May early part of June and really don't want to wear them in the heat. I was wondering if I could just wear them at the end of the day back at the hotel. Anyone out there have experience with these?

I have several vascular issues and wear a compression stocking on one leg.

Trust me, even though you don't want to wear them in the heat, you're much better off wearing them while you're doing all that walking. Yes, they're hot (I live in Florida now), but they make a huge difference in minimizing the pain from the IC.

There are varying strengths to these stockings and I prefer a 40 weight stocking, but will use a 20-30 weight sometimes. Those aren't that much heaver than wearing socks or pantyhose.

Try to get hose that are open toed. That also seems to help minimize heat issues.

I think that if your doctor suggests TED hose that you should wear them. They don't say that stuff for *their* health, they say if for yours. I mean that in the nice way, even though it comes off looking snarky. :)

Nothing wrong with a pair of TED hose. Who knows? You might start a fashion trend! :thumbsup2

Exactly- edema is never something to deal with if you can do without it. Sounds like the doc is suggesting the teds because it WILL work.

Varicous veins run in my mom's family, and myself at 30 have spider veins and a few puffy varicous ones. There are times when i'm standing for a long time that i wish i had a pair!

Teds not only help the edema, but they help the pain that comes with edema....WEAR them! Just get the tan color not the white, and wear light pants over them. Nobody will ever know!

Thanks for the replies. The only time I've ever had the problem is on my visits to WDW. I rarely would need the hose otherwise. My hesitation is that I am heat intolerant. My sweat glands don't work properly - I feel like my skin is a thermal blanket in the summer time. The only place I sweat is the back of my knees (forgive me if this sounds gross). I just can't see wearing pants at WDW in May/June. When we were there over the Thanksgiving holidays 2005 it was so warm that I wore shorts a couple of days.

Plus on top of that I'm in that peri-menopausal state where I'm starting to have hot flashes and feel like my skin can't breath. Geez, I need to trade this older model in for one that works a little better.
