Does anyone use the grocery game list to save money on groceries?

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I just finishing signing up and clicked on "teri's list" to see what I could buy. I try to shop Mon or Tues because the sales start on Sundays and the store is just mobbed all day! Anyway, the list says "valid 7/19-7/23" - isn't today the 25th? Are the lists updated only on a certain day of the week?

If you keep getting last week's LIST, even though the deadline for the official posting of the new LIST has passed, this indicates that you need to clear your cache.

Your computer stores temporary internet files. And when the cache becomes too full, it cannot bring up the new page, but instead gives you that page that it has stored from a previous visit to the site, from that same link.

A quick remedy may be to hit ...

"Ctrl + F5" -or- "Ctrl + [Reload Icon]"
This forces the browser to get the very latest version.
You should also clear your cache.
Here's how...
For INTERNET EXPLORER:

Open Internet Explorer or go on-line.
Click "Tools" at the top of the screen.
Click "Internet Options

I imagine sometimes the sales won't be right but I can't imagine they wouldn't take their own coupon. :confused3 Seems like they should have taken it for $1.49 at least, if they didn't want to have you get money back....you wouldn't have walked away with the money anyway, it just would have come off of the rest of your groceries.

The manager said it was for women's products and not the mens shaving gel. :confused3 but the coupon said Any nivea facial or skin care product and it didn't say just for women. We even tried to ring it up and the computer wouldn't take it. I think next time I'll go to another HEB in town. I swear theres like six or seven of them here in town!

It doesn't matter the amount that you save. The point is that you are saving money. SO many people don't use coupons. I look at the things in their cart & hear the total & know that there are coupons out for at least some of the items. Every little bit helps!

I signed up for the Grocery Game y-day (Sunday) We have 4 stores on the list, Kroger, Tom Thumb, Albertsons and HEB (Whole Foods).

I signed up for all 4 for my trial period. I will most likely go to 1 possibly 2 when the trial ends.

I used to use coupons all the time and spent hours in the grocery store doubling and tripling. Im talking 3 to 4 hours! When I had my 2nd son, I quit because it was too time consuming and I never had time. That was 6 years ago.

Last night I went to Tom THumb and and Krogers. Both have Entertainment Book coupons for $5 of $50 purchase. I dont even get the paper so I purchased one at Tom Thumb (Our Sunday edition gives you 2 papers for $1.99) while I was shopping from the list. I paid for my paper, and took a quick moment to clip the 6-8 coupons I needed and went straight to the check out. I saved 51%! It took me maybe 30 min.!

I then went across the street to Kroger, who is having 50% off Tyson Chicken. I stocked up (Freezer) and picked up a couple of other items on the list. Again I saved %50 at Kroger and all total, spent less than $100 between the 2 stores.

The list pointed me to in store coupon specials in aisles I never even walk down. The most AWESOME was buy 3 cards at .99 cent each and get a case of bottled water free! My boys have attended parties every weekend this month, and although I normally would not buy individual cards, I needed the water and the cards so I got both for $3!

What I like about the GG is that it is so easy, my DH can do it!! LOL!! I can select what we need, print the list, put the coupons needed in an envelope, and turn it over to him. He's been helping with the shopping but never uses coupons.

So I agree with the other posters, If you dont use coupons or have time to manage a couponing system on your own, so far I am really impressed with GG.

Lisa Loves Pooh,
Would you mind sharing which freebie site listed the same things as the Grocery Game? I am hoping they might include St. Louis, MO, since the grocery game does not. :(

Here in St Louis, the 2 big chains are local chains - Schnucks and Dierbergs. Kroger left years and years ago. You can find the occasional Shop n Save or Save a Lot. Maybe that's why the Grocery Game isn't here? :confused3 I wish it were!

http://www.couponmom.com/index.php?cid=4

It was mentioned on page 3 by someone. Good luck!

(It does sound like grocery game uses MAJOR chains and not local stores).

I forgot to mention that one thing I really like about learning how to power coupon shop & stockpile is that not only do I get to save my family alot of money, but I also have been able to donate more food & HBA items to the local soup kitchen & women's shelter than I ever would be able to do without this help. If I find something that is free or close to it and I wont use it, I still pick it up and put in in my donation box. Someone CAN use it & it didn't cost me anything to pick it up for them if it was free.

Someone mentioned that they don't buy name brand products. I use to also buy mainly generic products but found that doing this let me get name brands for less than generic. :)

The same is true for me. By using coupons/gg, I now get brand name stuff for less than store brand.

FYI: I've gotten a lot of helpful info by checking out the bulletin boards there. Even if the list isn't available in your area, the HOT TIPS bb, usually lists bargain that are available at places like CVS & Walgreens.

YES! Walgreen's rebates are great! You can use a manufacturor's coupon with a store coupon & make money! If you get the rebate on one of their GCs you get an extra 10%. :) LOVE IT!!! Couponing truely is a world of its own. :)

I've been doing the Grocery Game for about 4 weeks now and I love it! I have saved so much money and have more food in my house! My first week I saved 38%, my second week, 44%, my third week I saved 54%. Yesterday I saved 43% - but I had to buy diapers and that will throw off your curve. I didn't have any coupons when I started. What I really like about "The List" is that the items are listed in the general layout of the store. So, I can just follow my list up and down the isle as I go rather than continually searching back and forth on an alphabetized list. I have also used what I have learned at other stores. I went to a non GG store that had some good deals on meat. I bought $92 worth of groceries for $36. Plus I'm getting a $10 rebate back from Pepsi on that order. The store had 12 packs of diet Pepsi for $1.99 and Pepsi had a $10 rebate if you bought four 12 packs! I got paid $2 to get 48 cans of Diet Pepsi!
Also, one thing to remember about the list - and the reason to shop Sunday thru Tuesday - is that Teri also lists unpublished sales in addition to the weekly flyer. Stores frequently have 72 hour sales starting on Sundays - you wouldn't know about them by looking at the circulars.
Another good website to check out is www.dealagogo.com. Those are some real coupon kings and queens! They really know how to save. And on there boards they have links to free stuff!
Happy shopping everyone!

I was surfing the net last night and found this sight to save money on groceries called thegrocerygame.com. It really sounded like something I would like to try, has any one tried this and are you saving money like the reporter says? I usually get up around dawn and get the Sunday paper, go over the coupons and sale papers and make out my shopping list. This takes about two hours. I would love to save my time and get some extra beauty sleep. Tell me what you think, Thanks, mamo

Just wondering if the GG gives you links to online coupons are must you look for the coupons?

Thanks

I soooo hate my computer--hubby does all sorts of things to make it better and yet it just screws it up. I cannot print the internet coupons. Grrrrr! Tells me to uncheck a box in the settings that I have done repeatedly and then clicked apply. Nope, it doesn't take.

Anybody want a husband?

Well, I'll swap with you but you will have the same computer problems. My Dh does this to me all the time. Right now, I cant print coupons either...

Thanks, this is another great site!

They list deals available in many of the major super market chains across the country, as well as a bunch of other good stuff! I highly recommend that everyone check it out!

OK, all you grocery game professionals help me out a little.

I don't know how you guys plan your shopping but here's how I do mine. We keep a running list on the fridge where everybody in the house lists things that either we are running out of or we just want, foodwise. Then I go over the sale circular and try to get a weeks worth of meals out of the combination of the sale circular and our running list.

I shopped on Sunday and our running list currently has the following items on it: onions, tuna, paper plates, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, apples, grapes and goldfish crackers. This list is sure to grow before I shop again next Monday. I'm thinking it's pretty unlikely that these things will happen to be on the grocery game list this week. So what do you do? Not buy them eventhough you need them? Buy them anyway and sacrifice savings? What's the thinking on this? Ideas welcomed.

Eventually, if you buy enough 'stockpile' when it is on sale, you will have enought to last you til the next round of sales/coupons.
Initially, if you really NEED it, you just have to find the best price and buy it

look at your list: onions, tuna, paper plates, tomato sauce, tomato paste, oregano, apples, grapes and goldfish crackers.

which of these items do you really need? and which can you hold off on? Maybe don't make anythng with tomato sauce or paste this week? It is hard to stock up on produce- do you have an Aldis in your area? they have pretty decent everyday prices for produce.

Yes, I could skip the sauce, paste, and oregano for this week but then I'd probably forget I needed them...I don't want to have an extra list("things I need, but don't need right this minute") that would just create more work and I was going for less work. The other stuff on the list are definite NEEDS because I have to have them all

No, we don't have that Aldi's that everybody talks about. Never heard of it around here.

Thanks for the help.

We only have Publix, Albertsons, Winn -Dixie and Save a Lot - I am pretty much a Publix only gal. Albertsons here and there. I signed up for the four week trial but guess I now need the Sunday paper as well.

I'm printing the list and adding to it....initially it saves me some money--just not as much money.

Things like milk--kind of hard to stock pile.

sauce can be gotten so cheaply--and personally..I hardly ever see spices on sale (maybe the game does--fingers crossed!!!).

The paper plates--now are those a true need? ;).
