Does Anyone Use Allrecipes.com?

I love allrecipes. I read the reviews and usually only make to highly rated recipes.I found a recipe for the BEST meatloaf there. DH and I love it(and I never liked meatloaf before.

I too use all recipes and have hit and miss.

I would really love that meatloaf and sloppy joe recipes, they sound delicious.

Hey it would be a good idea to list the best recipe you got from a web site (including all recipes). That way at least we know someone has tried it. Here is my contribution from all recipes, an awesome cheesy cauliflower recipe. Great for kids.

Cauliflower Casserole
Cook Time: 30 Minutes Ready In: 45 Minutes
Yields: 6 servings

"Cauliflower is baked with Italian seasoned bread crumbs, Parmesan and Cheddar cheeses."
INGREDIENTS:
1 large head cauliflower, broken into small
florets
1/2 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese 2/3 cup Italian seasoned bread crumbs
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese (i use a bit more, mmmm cheese)

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Bring 2 inches of water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Add cauliflower, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes. Drain, and place in a 2 quart casserole dish.
3. In a small bowl mix together butter, Parmesan cheese, bread crumbs, salt, and red pepper flakes. Sprinkle mixture over cauliflower, and top with Cheddar cheese. (here is my tweak - i kinda toss it together)
4. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.

This is a good idea. I wish I had one to add!!!

I'm going to try that cauliflower recipe too! It sounds like something my kids would love.

Yep, both my recipes were so bland that I should have just thrown the chicken on the grill plain. It would have been a lot easier with the same result.

I am very disappointed with them!!

This weekend I decided to try to venture out of my cooking rut and try some new things. I have heard of people using allrecipes.com, in fact my dad uses it occasionally.

I thought it would be a good idea to look at a recipe and see how well it is reviewed. So many recipes seem to disappoint.

So, I found two chicken recipes that both *sounded* pretty good. One of them had 5 stars and had been reviewed by something like 250 people. Supposedly it was "excellent." BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. It was boring and so not worth the effort.

I made the second one and it was only marginally better.

So what's up with this site? Are the reviews over-inflated? Am I looking for too much?

I just want me SOME FLAVOR!!!!:)

I LOVE allrecipes. Yes sometimes I scratch my head and wonder what the heck some people are tasting that I am not but for the most part I have had great success.

If you want a GREAT recipe with FLAVOR -
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Roast-Sticky-Chicken-Rotisserie-Style/Detail.aspx

Follow the spice recipe to a T - except don't "marinate" the chicken - just rub the spices on and throw in the oven (you don't have to use all of the spice mixture - just make sure it's coated well and sprinkle some inside). Cube the onions into small wedges instead of quarting. Yes - it's 250º for 5 hours - get a Perdue Oven Stuffer roaster with the pop up timer - but ignore the pop up. When you have about 2 hours left you can start basting and pull the onions out of the cavity and arrange around the chicken.

When the chicken is done - use a fat separator to get the fat out - put the good stuff back in the pan and put the pan on a burner - add a can of chicken broth and thicken with Wondra and you have a nice SPICY gravy.

I make this at least twice a month.

ETA: - I only make one chicken with this recipe

Also one thing I have noticed, don't just go with the first few recipes you come to. I've noticed that some better sounding and tasting recipes can be listed further back in the search. Sometimes I wonder just why some recipes come up first instead of others. I know alphabetically has something to do with it;), but some of their top 20 recipes just don't cut it with me. I like to look a bit further on.;) I found a great breakfast casserole that way, btw. I used it for Christmas morning and it was great!:)

I used allrecipes from time to time also. I think there has only been one thing that I have been really disappointed with. And the bad thing is, the recipe sounded so good that several months later I made it again (forgetting how bad it was). :)

I love the recipe for modenese porkchops yummy....

My favorite recipe site, by far:

www.epicurious.com

This is the Bon Appetit magazine recipe website, plus other recipes too, and it is really well done. READ the reviews, because they offer invaluable advice on tweaking recipes. Some of the recipes are pretty involved, but there are many that are not, and they usually are VERY good (at least those recipes that are rated highly).

Another good, easy to use site:

www.meals.com

The search feature is very easy on this site, reviews are usually reliable, and it's much easier to sort through than allrecipes is.

I think it really depends on what types of tastes you like- if you typically use Campbells Cream soups, then the flavors you encountered there may be bland in comparison. That's just one example.

Okay, well I'm the type of person who would NEVER in a million years use Campbell's Cream soups (I think they are horrible and bland), would never use Hamburger Helper, and gets frightened at the thought that there is a meal out there actually called "Tater Tot Casserole" and people fix this for dinner!:rotfl:

The recipe I picked was called Romantic Chicken with Artichokes (or something to that effect). It had chicken breasts, marinated artichoke hearts, used the liquid from the marinated artichoke hearts, had lots of mushrooms, and some white wine. This stuff had no flavor.

I love that site. I also you foodnetwork and Kraftfoods sites. With so many recipes, it's a hit or miss thing. I print one out,try it and if it isn't great I just move on and try something else. Plus, a good cook always tweeks recipes to suit their own tastes

Sounds like it needed LOTS of fresh garlic, red bell peppers, and sun dried tomatoes. Also a chicken stock base would be more flavorful. We have a local restaurant that uses all those ingredients, plus turns the sauce into a light cream sauce (not like alfredo). It is OUT OF THIS WORLD with flavor.

You are probably correct. It did have garlic in it, but no peppers. Also, the "sauce" if you can even call it that, was like water. I had the impression that it should have been thicker (like a light cream sauce). This would have been very good.
